OPENING A NEW LQS, NEED COLOR HELP
#124
I like most colors esp. jewel tones. I tend to gravitate toward the marbles instead of just plain solids.
My least favorite is salmon, especially any pale shade.
If you can imagine, here in TX, I went yesterday to get fabric to make a cowboy quilt for our 1st great grandson, the fabric shop had no blue bandana fabric so will have to head out again next week.

the most easily sold quilt is blue, brown and beige....for adult bedrooms, that is...other than that, i use purples, greens, teals, rusts, in all shades but none of this will spark without blue, red, yellows...

I agree with light colors all shades, tone on tone. The hardest to find are wide backs, I know we can order them online but I still like to hold all my fabric and see it together to find a good match. Good luck with your LQS and let us know when and where you are opening, I'm south of you in Tustin Ranch, would love to shop!!!

I would think that color is the least of your problems. What most quilt stores do is to forget to carry some specialty fabric lines that appeal to different life styles, for example depending on your location, do you need to carry farm, animal, sewing, masculine, food etc type prints? It may be to our advantage also to advertise that you are willing to acquire what a customer wants.
LQS are in competition with websites and auction sites too.
Hope this was of some help. I live in Norway and do a lot of shopping on the net where I can take advantage of cost effective shipping costs. I can purchase and ship large amounts of fabric and still safe money because of the high prices here.

Well I went back and my response must be out in cyberspace somewhere. I do landscaping quilts, and old barns etc. So as I am not alone there are many of us that do this type. I need fabrics that can look like tree trunks and limbs, wood grain, sky and waters, rocks grasses and florals just to name a few. I dont care what manufactor, like moda etc especially excep for my whites and off whites then Kona cant be beat. I could go on and on but that should be enough.lol

Novelties and batiks seem to be a going thing right now.
Of course I collect dog fabrics and other animal fabrics so thats the first place I go then off to the batiks. Unless the batiks are before the novelties. Are you going to be online too? ;-)
Also congratulations and good luck
