I have several larger size scraps leftover from making vests, and I am not sure about getting them ready to do patchwork. What size scrap would you suggest I cut them down to, so as not to defeat my purpose? As they are, they would be hard to work with, but I don't want to end up with little tiny scrap inserts. I know the process of patching. Can you make some good suggestions for me?

I usually cut mine into 2 1/2 inch strips if there is enough the width of the fabric. What is left I cut into 5 inch squares so I can use them for nickle quilts or HSTs. Then if there are smaller pieces left I cut them into 2 1/2 inch squares.

When there is a goodly amount of leftover fabric from a project, I just cut the stringy tails off and store the pieces according to warm and cool colors. Haven't gotten into the jelly roll strips yet, have too many UFO's to get out of the way to try a new thing.....yet.

My fabric is stored in plastic tubs with covers. Fabric gets folded in a size to fit that particular tub using as few folds as needed to fit. I have a tub for each of the primary and secondary colors, plus teal/turquiose, gray/black,bright multi prints and dark multi prints. I never know what future need will be, so I leave the fabric in one piece.
