I have been working on a batik version of 'splendid sampler 2' for about a year and am getting towards the end. I decided to very roughly lay out the blocks to begin seeing how it looked rather than just being in my head. I was going for the 'rainbow ombre' type effect.
Ideally I had wanted a double size quilt and so thought I would use narrow sashing to help increase the size. I thought perhaps black with batik cornerstones. However, seeing it laid out like this I'm not sure that work and wonder if I should just join them as they are, put a border on (no idea what colour) and just accept it will be smaller than double.
What would you do?

There are several different 'finishes' here, some similar to your ideas. I'm partial to the top/right quilt with the 'X' blocks.

I agree to black sashing with cornerstones. It will give it a stained glass look and accent all of the colors. You could also add a border that would drop from the ends and edges of the existing quilt and would incorporate duplicates of some of the blocks that you liked or colors that you want to accent more. This would also make it wider and longer.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Its funny, in the other UK based forum I asked the same.question and everyone steered away from black and said to float them with white.
Think i will lay some out with sashing to see which effect I like best
