Quick, grab an ice cube. What you do right away makes the difference in how fast you heal.
Now try tilting your iron up so that the tip gets things ironed into place, then press. Really saves that steam burn to the finger tips.

You could ask your Dr. for a Rx for 'silver sulfadene' cream in a tube. Excellent for burns!
But ice water first, to cool everything down.
Should you look at using a wooden clothespin to hold down those little pieces, to keep your fingers away from the iron?
