i had this happen to me resently. am doing a lot of free motion on fabric panels. i cut off the entire border and used a black binding on it after quilting. turned out great and looked even better than it would have with the border on.

I use a lot of panels and I cut it with a 1/4 seam allowance then put couping strips around it to make it even, then go from there, the last one I did I put 1 1/2" on top and bottom and 2 1/2" on the sides. it works for me. hope it helps

I also bought panels and found them to be off too. No amount of starching and stretching when I ironed helped, so I just did the best I could and when it was done, it didn't really show that much. Good luck!
