    Thanks LAF2019 for the explanation. The jelly roll would be a lot quicker that using little bits like I was thinking of. I heard a long time ago about sewing your little strips onto a calculator tape. I looked for a year or more at the yard sales and just found one a couple of months ago that is the widest I have seen. It is 3 1/2" wide. Thought that would be a good size but notice that everyone is 'talking' about width of strips but not length. What is the other dimension that some of you use?

    I choose the width and length according to what looks good to me for the quilt top. I have made piano keys borders up to 6 inches wide and as narrow as 2 1/2 inches wide.
