I have not used them on wall hangings. All other quilts I make them 4 - 6" long and random widths from 1-1/2 - 2-1/2".

I have never used them because of the math thing! But looking at that one with different size keys, that would take away the hard part of the math!

I've only done them once on the quilt that is my Avatar but I love the look and Helen6869 is right, you can make them fit and even if it's a smidge off, no one will likely notice.

I have tried several times to make equal piano keys in a border and have been frustrated beyond belief every time. Once I began using different widths, the whole process has been much easier; plus, I've been able to use more of the scrap fabrics in my bins with some pretty amazing results -- if I do say so myself.

Can anyone share a link with a good tutorial on the mitered corners? Thank you!

Great tutorial! But i am hoping to learn how to do the mitered piano key border.....they look so pretty, but mine are an awful mess and i end up just using cornerstones.
