    I normally piece on the diagonal. I just like the looks of it better. But I have pieced with a blunt, straight seam. Like a lot of things, I think it just depends on your preference.

    I think you are asking about piecing a backing.Look on flynnquilt.org then under Johns workshops then under free lessons

    I think the question was about backing and Flynn method is awsome.....but if the question was about borders they are best cut first on lengthwise grain the full length required and then cut the remaining pieces that are of the same fabric IMHO

    I think the advantage is that the seam is spread out and not so bulky all in one place. froggyintexas

    I've used it only once to save fabric. Once I got through the math, it worked fine. To do another one, I'd have to pull out the directions again I used that diagonal seam as a design point. It was fun.

    I think John Flynn came up with that technic. It saves on fabric. If the quilt is wider than WOF, you may only have to buy length plus 1/2 to 1 yd, instead of 2 times length. I've done it and think it's great.
