Lots of Pincushions on Pinterest too... Some use smaller Quilt blocks, Some are Appliqued, The World is the limit.. some have lace others Denim, some are plain and others are plaid or Flowers or combination - any thing you like.
Round, Square, Rectangle you name it and you will find it...

Google pin cushion patterns. You got a whole bunch of links in previous answers and Google results will blow you out of the water.

I love making teacup and saucer pin cushions. All it takes is thrift shop mismatched (or matched if you can find them) cups and saucers, fabric, stuffing and hot glue. froggyintexas
