If you have not seen these, go to do a google.com search for PINMOOR.com.
They are little jelly-like stubs to place on the end of a straight pin. WHY? Becasue it is far far easier to pin with straaights than safety pins when basting.
Bought some, used them and can say I realllly apreciatethe lady who thought these up! Having some arthritis in my hands, those safety pins are killer painful.

I bought and love these too. I tried 3 different kinds of 'ear plugs' hoping they would be a good solution, but they are way too soft and squishy to put the pins in. The pinmoors are firm and hold tight, making them very quick to use. Bought the orange and white sets so the colors just pop out at me when I need to take them out of dark or light fabric.

:D I only bought one 50 pc package --- that is good for 50 straight pins. So far, I do not think I would need more.
KEEP PINMOORS AWAY FROM KIDS - they kinda look like those gummy candies.
