Kona is great for solids - but I usually use white on white instead of solid white. My favorite site is Virginia Quilters

http://www.virginiaquilter.com/cgi-l...047+1291347907

They "enhance" the white on white so you can actually see the pattern.

When I need a plain white I use a high qulaity bleached muslin. That being said I don't use it much anymore, I prefer tone on tone.. its a bit more interesting.

Kona is available at both Joann & Hobby Lobby so you should be able to find a coupon for at least 40% off. Sometimes Hobby Lobby has wide Kona too

Kona solids is the way to go! You can get all shades of white at both Joann's and Hancocks.

I love Kona cottons but they are so expensive. I go to Wal-Mart and get white on white or tonal. I had gotten the same at Joanns, it was thin it was garbage and they charged me almost $6. I went to Wally's got the same fabric, design and feel except the one from wally's wasn't so thin you could see thru it, what a rip off Joanns is. Oh did I say that outloud? It was good quality fabric so if you don't want to pay thru the nose try there.

I've used Kona Cotton and also the cotton sateen that Hancock sells.

I picked up some white at the local quilt shop for way less than that.

Try some of the online stores.

As a handquilter I learned the hard way to avoid cotton sheets unless they are a low thread count. I also have trouble with tone on tone if it is heavily printed or flocked. Kona is probably your best bet for consistant solid fabrics.
