I would suggest trying to hit Cool Cottons and Fabric Depot. At Cool Cottons you'll see some more obscure imported fabrics, but you'll have to bus instead of max. The Tri Met website will navigate pretty accurately.

At Fabric Depot you'll just find alot. If you're going n a weekend before 6 they have their outdoor sale now which has a bunch of $5 a yard fabrics. They're also open until 9PM so it should There are a couple of corners that its easy to miss. The batiques blend into the bridal section bad some of the quilt cottons do too. There's a Managers Special sale rack that I see as the dividing line that's easy to miss. The flannel and Minky are surrounded by quilting fabric. In the back corner by notions and home dec I the remnants section which has good stuff too.

Can you tell I was there last weekend and used to live up the street?

You forgot to mention Mill End Fabric. the Milwaukie store also boasts at being the biggest fabric store in the nation. If you want to see Penelton's fabric line this is a good place to go. That said its in a really obscure corner of town so navigating is kind of a pain.

I'm taking notes from this thread too! We (DH & I) are road-tripping to Portland & back in July and stopping at 2 quilt shows on the way. I can't wait! We live in N.California so it's going to be a GORGEOUS drive.

Okay since someone mentioned Pendleton.... There is a factory and store in Camas, Washington, just across the river from Portland. They give tours of the factory and have an outlet shop. I highly recommend it. You can get very nice wool yardage (mill ends) as low as $3, $4, $5 a yard.

(Maybe I should keep my mouth shut... lol!)

There's also a Penelton's outlet across the Highway from Mill End. I haven't been in yet.

And don't let that weight limit stop you, USPS, UPS and FedEx run right to your door...some all the weight you can stuff in a box, others by size and weight. I shipped a box on my trip to Eugene area and paid $40 postage, the box was huge, I bought an iron and loads of fabric and the tax savings alone more than paid for the freight!
