Prayer quilt
#3
I just typed in "Prayer Quilt" to Google and got hundreds of hits, including some instructions. Most of them have some kind of tie on the block. When the quilt is made by a group of people, they pray and tie the block. Also, most of them are made to give away: hospices, hospitals, nursing homes, new babies, etc.

My 35 year old niece, who passed away in March of this year with breast cancer, was given what she called a prayer quilt. It was quilted with long ties - I'm thinking maybe pearl cotton thread. When a person came to see her, they were to say a prayer for her and tie another knot in one of the ties. Each tie had many knots in it - each representing a prayer that had been offered for her.

This sounds like the what was described to me yesterday, Thought is was a great idea, since I have several people in my church that have gone through or are going through chemo. I've never heard of one, Thanks to all who replied. :-)

I have the pattern where you trace handprints of friends and family and applique them onto a block. The person can also print a message or prayer by their handprint. I wanted to do one for my cousin but she went so fast I didn't even get a chance to collect the handprints. So sad. The prayer quilts with the long strings that you tie a knot in ever time you say a prayer sound lovely.
