I was always told to either pre-wash fabric before quilting or not, but what you do to some, do it to all the fabric. I now am in a jam. I am making a black and white quilt for charity. I needed more solid black but I didn't pre-wash the other fabric and I'm afraid it might run. Would I be safe if I washed it with the color catcher and let it air dry?

No heat, it shouldn't shrink!

check the fabric for bleeding,
fill a glass with hot water, put a piece of questionable fabric in the water, add a drop of detergant, let it soak for several minutes. Pull the fabric out and rub it with a piece of white scrap fabric. if it bleeds then I would wash it in cold water and air dry it. RECHECK IT!!!! If it still bleeds after the wash you can try using Retayne in the next wash!

Shout Color Grabber (I bought mine at Walmart) solved that problem for me. I had a red, white and blue quilt and my cat threw up on it. It had never been washed. I threw 2 color grabber sheets into the cold water wash and praise be all my colors came out perfectly.
