Default Pressing a Hexigon Quilt Top

I have hand pieced a hexagon grandmothers garden quilt top and now I am stumped on how to press it evenly for quilting. I used plastic templets to make it and took them out as I was done putting them together. Now I have a problem trying to iron it flat.

    Any suggestions or help appreciated

Was this one of your first attempts at this?

yes it was bearisgray...why did I mess it up?

I think my problem was that I didn't press each one before I removed the templet. They were pretty smooth before I took them out.

I've never used plastic templates so I don't know what happened. When using paper they don't have to be pressed when the paper is removed.

SusieQOH, So did you press the whole quilt top before you quilted it? Or was is just smooth. Did you machine piece or hand?

You might try spritzing it with water, which will help relax the fibers, then pressing it with something really fluffy underneath, such as a newer, fluffy towel. I don't know that you're going to be able to press it all out, though. It kind of looks like there's excess fabric gathered in the seams.

I hand pieced mine and no, I didn't press it, it's smooth. Not sure what happened to you.

Can you recreate the steps and show us how you put the hexagons together?

We might be able to help more if we can see how you did it.

it would have helped pressing as you went but you know, you could tie this one and it would be fine.

I have just finished a hexagon top, though by machine. I found the easiest way with the seams was to 'twist' the corners, and sprayed with starch to help set them when pressing, - a tedious job while standing - so some seams I used a wash-out glue stick while I sat.
