There is no fast and hard word on pressing to the dark side. I press to the dark side when I can but there are times that is just not feasible when working on some blocks. You just have to press to the lighter side. If I was concerned about it showing through when washing I will prewash before cutting. Yes it may still show through but there would be less chance of bleeding. Best of luck with your quilt.

I press to the dark usually but I need to reduce bulk in a seam I press the seam open or to the light. I feel this is a personal preference and sometimes we can't follow the pressing seam rule
