Just recently read a posting by Jodie Davis about the price of cotton having dropped 54% since March due to a good growing season.

So, wondering if anyone knows if this will allow the prices of fabric to go back down to a reasonable price???

I'm thinking the manufacturers won't lower prices.

However, one by one, many quilt shops are going out of business because of the high prices. Most people simply cannot afford to pay $10+ per yard for fabric.
Surely, the manufacturers will see that this will hurt them in the long run.

The LQS's in our area have been $9.99 a yard long before the price raise this year. Many here hit $12.99 with increase so hopefully will go back to $10. W & N batting last week was $13.99 at Joann's and last month was $9.99 yard

I just heard on the radio this am that the price of cotton is going down. I laughed out loud..Wondered when is the fabric going down?

Prices for goods never go back after the crisis is over. One more gotcha for the American public.

you know it...as long as WE the people are dumb enough to keep paying it, they will keep the prices right were they are!

Here in the UK a Moda fabric (for example) costs over £12 per metre (39 ins by 44 ins).

At an exchange rate of $1.62 to £1, that the equivalent of £19.32 per metre or $4.83 per FQ.

I have just got back into Quilting after an absence of 10 years - I have been truly shocked by the jump in prices!

Sure would be good if prices would go down...but I am not going to count on it....though maybe we can wait and see if some of the companies start to lower them...if one does, then more than likely others will follow....maybe we should all write to our favorite fabric companies and voice our opinion!

I guess they figure we are paying thru our noses now as it is, so why lower it.

think of it this way.......if the price of the fabric does go down it will be many months before we see it as what raw goods is bought now won't show up in the stores until next fall or winter. A business (LQS) would be foolish to drop their prices now to below what they paid for it.......just because the raw cotton price has dropped.

A lot of people have been using their stashes instead of buying new fabric. But if the demand goes down because of a price hike, they are more likely to put the price down to where people were willing to buy. The odds are against us though.
