The Civil War/reproduction quilt shops are alive and well. You just have to venture out and find them.

So much of today's trend is to the quick and easy. Frankly, I'm rather offended to see machine quilted quilts taking prizes at the quilt shows and the hand quilted ones are overlooked. I vividly recall a show where there was a fantastic whole cloth hand quilted one that received nothing while the machine quilted ones took the awards. I understand time constraints of today's women but we are losing a part of history and respect for the time and talent put into hand quilting.
Some of us can't hand quilt due to disability issues. I wish I could. I greatly admire hand quilted quilts and those who make them, but if I couldn't machine piece and machine quilt I would be unable to make quilts. And I would miss the joy and pleasure of making quilts for myself or family and friends.

I won't go too far into the hand quilting versus machine quilting debate because I am an avid machine quilter...but I do on occasion hand quilt. I appreciate and love both!
