I think I would email the editor and tell them that not only do you not appreciate their tactics, but you have posted it on the largest online quilting forum on the Internet. Like they say, make a customer unhappy, and they'll tell 10 more people.

Here's the reply I would have sent

UNPAID ACCOUNT

YOU HAVE SENT ME FOUR INVOICES AND I HAVE NOT REPLIED TO YOU YET.

EITHER:
(1) YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND I'M NOT INTERESTED
(2) CALL ME AT #800-555-5555 TO TELL ME WHY YOU THINK YOUR PUSHY TACTICS WILL WORK.

OR I WILL PLACE YOUR NAME ON THE QUILTING BOARD SO EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS.

I thinkit is horrible they would do such a thing. We pay for a year [or other certain time] and if we don't renew they should leave us alone. Scares me for I have just ordered the Quilt magazine and would hate to get bills sent as you did. I think this kind of thing happens when too much is handled with machines instead of good old human beings.

I didn't realize that. Unless you sign a contract for more than a year, I don't think it is our responsibility to tell them we don't want to renew. By not receiving a payment should tell them, we don't want anymore magazines.
Sirus radio is real bad about that, as well. They give six months free. I say, fine and dandy. If I want it passed the six months, I will let you know. I never asked for the free six months and I shouldn't have to tell you that I don't want it anymore.

Almost every magazine we have subscribed to in the last several years has been obnoxious about renewing. Most of them start sending renewal notices almost as soon as the first issue of the subscription is mailed out. Nothing on the renewal notices gives you a clue when your subscription really expires. I bet if you didn't pay attention they would let you renew into the next millenium. If you want to subscribe to any magazine, you need to keep track of what you paid and when you're paid through.

Sorry you had this happen; try to enjoy the battle.

That is terrible! I think it's criminal if a company can renew anything without your written consent! That's one magazine I won't purchase.

Flying_V_Goddess 01-21-2011 05:19 PM

I had went to some gardening site and saw that they had an offer to get a free gardening magazine. So I'm like, "Okay. Free magazine!" So I got my one "try it out" magazine. I wasn't planning to subscribe whether I liked it or not. Well, a few weeks later the magazine company sent me a notice saying I hadn't paid for my subscription. Ignored it. They sent me a few more. Ignored them. Can't remember how many I got before they finally took the hint. Don't think I'll take another trial offer for a magazine again. I didn't sign up for a subsciption...I just wanted a free magainze yet they acted like I had signed up and hadn't paid.

I got the same thing...I too called them and gave them an earful...you would think they would understand what "Bad Practices" mean
