Way beyond the age and don't have a sewing room (it's now grandson's bedroom) but definitely have the fabric and supplies. Goodness, I really don't want to think about the value of all that fabric and tools.
That's me, you been peeking in my room?
Well I'm over the average age of 62 but only by 6 years and I'm going to have to hide my net worth in fabric, machines and notions :|
I'm not 62 yet - and have a ways to go (i'm 50) but i do have a room for "crafting" and i have a ton of material, so this could be me other than the age!
I do have a dedicated "room" (actually a small garden shed outside) but I don't get to use it, mostly I sew at the kitchen table.
Otherwise - no. I'm 30 years old, I have maybe $1000 in equipment (a serger and a sewing machine, plus various and sundry small items) and I have I don't know how much fabric, but NOWHERE near $3,700 of fabric |
Yep, that describes me ... except the age, I'm a bit older. My daughter is the only one who knows exactly how much my Pfaff sewing machine cost. I told her so she could claim it before my husband sold it for $1 in a yard sale after I'm gone. I felt guilty until I estimated the cost we have in golf clubs, greens fees, golf carts, etc. We're probably about even. However, he is so proud of my quilts and is so interested in each one I am making. He loves the one I made him ... he wraps up in it every night when he watches anything on ESPN.
I am all the way with this post and then some. I enjoy every minute and make no excuses...LOL!!
I'm 40.
I have a sewing cabinet in our bedroom, but it's got fabric piled on it. So I sew at the dining room table. I have about half that amount in supplies if you count my 2 machines. About half that amount in fabric as well. I've been sewing on a regular basis for 26 years and quilting for 5 years. :) |
Not at all. Especially the age. Definitely do not have all that money invested in stuff,
I'm a few years older, have a dedicated room (that just developed a leak in the ceiling during last night rainstorm), don't have that much in equipment and probably that much in fabric.
I guess I am a bit older than the average. My granmother started me sewing and quilting when I was in grade school. Did a little thru the years, bought as I needed. When we moved (my husband was transferred every 2-4 years) gave my fabric to a local church so I didn't have to move it. FInally when he retired to one spot, got my own sewing room, worked for a fabric store, and my sewing room blossomed.
I have enough fabric to make dozens of quilts a year until I am at least 200 years old. Looking and rearranging my stash is therapy. I have notes on dozens of quilts to make, have bags ready with everything needed to make quilts. I even thought ahead and put directions in my bags so I knew what they were for. |

Wow, yes to all those requirements. I am 62, I have a dedicated sewing room and over the last few years since I started this hobby I must have spent as much as that, if not more on fabric, notions, machine etc.
Oh yes, I fall in that catagory....I'm 62 and have been quilting for 30+ years. I'm sure that I've spent that much on material, and every little $2.00 item adds up so even though I had to think if I could have spent that much. It's easy to do. And I'm not done, I want a new machine. So all you young quilters out there, don't be get upset thinking it'll cost that much. It just addes up little at a time, but well worth it. And I actually use two rooms for sewing, one for the actual sewing, one for cutting.
Is the price of equipment the new cost or depreciation value? I am shy of the age, but everthing else fits and it is growing.
Mostly. Not the fabric. Most of my fabric stash is old. Don't have that much quilting fabric. Pretty new to this, but......I'll get there!
That describes me to a tee and my children love it, they get the results at Christmas.
Well, I'm 59 but that's the closest I come to ANY of them!
Age is spot on, I quilt in a corner of our living room, have not spent the amt of $ for tools etc due to hubby being laid off 2 yrs ago. Am in my frugal mode these days but still enjoying my quilting time and this site is so helpful. Glad to see the younger quilters! You all rock!
Omigosh! I'm way past the age and way under the $8500 -- better start shopping. Don't know about the value of fabric stash but statistically know I'm not going to live long enough to use it all.
Well, I would say that is pretty close!!
I'm 64 years old. I sew at the kitchen island with a brother SQ9000 electronic sewing machine. Probably have 600 in tools and supplies and 4 or 5 hundred in material.
OH AM I EVER THERE, BUT TRY A GOOD PART OF THE HOUSE
Have the sewing room, working on the rest of the list.
I know I fall into that category on all counts!! And then some...
I am 66.
My sewing space is the master bedroom. (Although the bed only takes up 25% of the space. The rest is for my two sewing machines and tables, my ironing and cutting table, my computer and printer and a coat rack for my bags and purses. About a 1/3 of the closet is for clothes the rest is for stash, storage, office supplies,CDs,paperwork, bedding, etc. The closet is 8ft. wide, by 24in.deep, 8 ft. tall.) My tools, including quilting books(62+), tables (3), machines(2), rack for thread (1 150 spools) , OTT lights (4),rotary cutters, scissors, storage bins, etc. Probably about $5,000. Fabric $2,500. Quilts made 5. Quilting for 6 months. :) |
I'm 63, just ordered a $119 Brother sewing machine on-line from Costco (my other inexpensive machine is 45 yo and is still putt putting along. I buy fabric on sale and have some from my high school home ec days. I do have a bedroom that is my sewing room and craft room (for scrap booking).
 |

(lol its good quality just not much of it!) I'm 48 I also sew at the kitchen table I have invested maybe $600 including my machine I also have about $150 worth of fabric, good quality |
Sounds about right. Don't tell DH. :)
Don't quite meet the age, just 55.
My sewing rooms include the living room (five machines), so the dining room became the living room, and the breakfast area (ironing board, cutting table), kitchen cabinets, the coat closet, the 2nd closet in the master bedroom and the garage...no room for cars. Way over $8500 for equipment. Super way over the fabric. It's good I'm not married, so I guess the whole house is my sewing and fabric area...except for the spots the dogs take up :) |
I match two things
I am 64 and do have a Quilt Studio. Don't have anywere near that much in tools or machines, and not that much in fabric. Carol in Delaware |
Oh dear. I'm a bit younger, don't have a whole room devoted to sewing and I hope to *&%$ I don't have all that money tied up in quilting. I could have gone on my fantasy vacation and had a ball on that money!
I am "only" 56. I do have a sewing room (since my kids grew up and we no longer needed 5 bedrooms). I have less that average tied up in machines and have no clue on the amount I have invested in fabric though I'm guessing less than $3500. It is wonderful to see so many replies from really young quilters. The art will continue!
Yes a few of these are me!
I have the sewing room but not any of the rest.
Well I pretty much sew in the dining room, but I don't eat there anymore, so maybe it is my sewing room! If books and magazines count as sewing supplies and tools, then maybe I reach the mark. I probably have enough fabric to qualify. I certainly do, if you count the 40+ finished quilts.
I can't get into the guest room anymore. There is too much fabric, etc. in there at the moment. |

Well, I don't fit any of the categories. I'm way past 65, have 3 longarms and more fabric than I care to count. Also I have the Accuquilt machine and lots of dies.
