Good Evening Every1, again.

I hope that you are all doing well. I am working on my winnie-the-pooh quilt. I have been stitching in the ditch & was wondering if the quilting gloves that are available are worth it :?: :?: :?: :? :? I think that you use them to guide the quilt under the presser foot :? :? I was having a problem of getting the quilt under the presser foot. I am not very sure. Please any help would be appreciated very much. Thank you all in advance for your suggestions. When its done, I promise I will post pictures for your viewing.

Have a blessed day/weekend ahead.

P.S.-Would you let me know what brands (if any) that you use & why??? :thumbup:THANKS SO MUCH

I would say "YES"!! I can quilt much better and easier with the gloves.

JulieR 08-12-2011 07:02 PM

They do help me, but you can really use any gloves with "grip" -- like gardening gloves. If you have some laying around the house I'd certainly give it a try!

Sometimes I do ditch them if I'm hot or don't feel like I can feel the motion well enough. But usually yes, they do help me. :)

Summer Spice 08-12-2011 07:03 PM

They are wonderful, a friend gave me mine and now I couldn't get along without them.

CompulsiveQuilter 08-12-2011 07:04 PM

I occassionally forget to use my Machingers and wonder why I can't move the quilt under the foot! THEY ARE ESSENTIAL! I tried several brands, plus cheap things like finger cots, but the Machingers are IT. You can even thread a needle wearing them. They're not expensive, but so so so valuable for good quilting. INVEST! Machingers

luana 08-12-2011 07:05 PM

I use Machingers Quilting Gloves. They are lightweight and come in several sizes for a nice fit. I find that I can do a better job, even for SID. Good Luck

quiltsillysandi 08-12-2011 07:08 PM

Most definitely....Couldn't do it without them.....!

Jim's Gem 08-12-2011 07:10 PM

I have a pair of Machigers and I can quilt with much less shoulder pain using them. They sure help gripping the fabric.

dunster 08-12-2011 07:11 PM

Machingers! They are essential to quilting on a DSM.

Patty Patches 08-12-2011 07:17 PM

I use Machinagers,they;re great

akisan 08-12-2011 07:18 PM

I went to Tuesday Morning 2 days ago and found an end cap filled with Fons & Porter's sewing aids. I bought 2 machingers for $1.49 each, embroidery scissors for $3.99, rulers for $1.00 and there's a lot more on sale. If you have Tuesday Morning in your area you may want to check it out.

cny_sewer39 08-12-2011 07:22 PM

I do have a Tuesday Morning in my area, but they only had the small size gloves available. Thanks

Ditto!

Mary M 08-12-2011 07:40 PM

I use my Fons and Porter gloves all the time but they seem to be wearing out too fast. I would really like to try the Machingers....don't even know what they look like though!

sunflower126 08-12-2011 07:49 PM

I too have the Fons and Porter gloves that I use all of the time. Couldn't quilt without them.

ontheriver 08-12-2011 07:49 PM

I use gardening gloves with silicon palms and fingers. Cost 1.00 at dollar tree.

Ruby the Quilter 08-12-2011 07:55 PM

sounds like I need to check out the Tuesday Morning here.

I have both brands & prefer the Machingers.

Machingers Gloves info:

I tried them on before I bought them & find they run big. According to their sizing chart I should wear a S/M, but find the XS fit better.

jemma 08-12-2011 09:42 PM

they need to fit well+must have cotton except for the grippy part[otherwise too hot]i used a gardening glove for a long time

Ditto! The Atlas 370's are under $10 and rubber on the surface, snug fitting and breathable on the back. Awesome for arthritic hands, too.

I really hate wearing gloves. Yes, I have tried both "quilting gloves" and the plain old dotten gardening gloves. They drive me crazy, making my feel as though my hands have gotten fat and unresponsive. Most of the members of my guild have them and love them. I think it's an individual thing. I have also tried the finger tip thingies and small fip flops. I liked them the best, but I still prefer bare hands.

Donna H-M 08-13-2011 02:36 AM

I use garden gloves from Walmart. I have more contol of my quilt, use them for FM, SID, and sewing the binding on. I have to take them off often to cut threads, etc. but worth it.

They are cheap at Connecting Threads. I have a pair I haven't used yet.

Have a blessed day/weekend ahead.

JoyjoyMarie 08-13-2011 02:39 AM

I don't know what brand I have, but they were a very worthwhile investment. I wouldn't quilt without them now! They make things so much more manageable.

Sienna's GiGi 08-13-2011 02:40 AM

Sorry. Posted wrong. Connecting Threads have them for cheap.

catladyquilts 08-13-2011 03:01 AM

gloves are essential but any gloves that have a nubby texture will work, I have pink "quilting" gloves that I found at Walgreens that were 3 pair for 2.99 and they work great instead of paying up to 12 for a pair

honeebee 08-13-2011 03:06 AM

i just looked at the gloves and can't use them cause of latex sensitivity. bummer. they do look like they would be very helpful.

sept97 08-13-2011 03:27 AM

I just use gardening gloves with little rubeer dots on them, they work just fine and they only cost a couple of bucks

molly oldham 08-13-2011 03:29 AM

Yes!!

Babs194068 08-13-2011 03:35 AM

I use them because my hands get slick after awhile and I can't move the fabric. Sounds silly but is true

Steady Stiching 08-13-2011 03:36 AM

I find that I like my mens work gloves with the rubber dots on them that I got at the dollar store more than the F & P gloves (which stretched out and have no memory)
The dollar store gloves breath nicely. At first I was concerned becuase the rubber dots are black but I tested and have been using them for months.

At the end of the day....any rubberized glove will work. and is soooo necessary

hopetoquilt 08-13-2011 03:42 AM

I use Fons and Porter Quilting Gloves from JoAnne's. They work sooo well

loves_2_quilt 08-13-2011 03:44 AM

I don't remember the brand I use, but I have more control if I do. Mine are white stretchy gloves from a local quilt shop.

deedum 08-13-2011 03:46 AM

I like Machingers Quilting Gloves, Fons and Porter is great too. I usually can find F&P glovest at hobbylobby reasonable. I always cut the tips out of the gloves so I can still use my fingers to rethread needle and such. The dollar tree has light weight gardening gloves that doesn't work too bad either for a dollar.

denise8556 08-13-2011 03:52 AM

I love them and would not be without them.

cavmom 08-13-2011 04:44 AM

i love them for free motion quilting, it helps you keep a grip on the fabric since you are moving it around rather quickly. I dont use them when i am using a walking foot . With the feed dogs ups the machine is regulating the material.

BarbP 08-13-2011 04:45 AM

I used to use Machingers gloves but got tired of having to take them on and off for every little thing. Now I use the bands from Steady Betty. They leave your fingers free and like that much better.

MimiLinda 08-13-2011 04:54 AM

Yes, yes and yes again. I have the Fons and Porter and also the "dollar store" variety of garden gloves. Both work well. :-D

PaperPrincess 08-13-2011 05:12 AM

Yes.

pollyjvan9 08-13-2011 05:13 AM

Yes, anything with the little grippers on the palms. I have used gardeners gloves that I bought for a dollar a pair on sale! The Fons and Porters are great, but I think they all work much the same.
