I use the sandpaper dots underneath my ruler so it doesn't slip.

I am thinking of making a strips quilt, where you sew strips on to a muslin square, and then at the end, trim the square. I really want to try to get rid of some of my scraps! Has anyone done this, and can provide some advice? Thanks in advance!

yes, all the time. it's called a crazy quilt or strip quilt. You can sew strips in any direction without regard to grain as long as you're sewing to a foundation. if you have small scraps cut your foundation 4-6" - larger if your scraps are larger.

I had a DFIL, dear father in law, whom I loved very much and will always think of him and miss him. I also had a NSDMIL, not so dear mother in law, who, when she died at age age 87, caused celebration for me and my DDs (dear daughters). DH,dear husband, had mixed feelings and he found it convenient to forget the many times she was an interfering witch and hurt the DDs.

So much for acronyms.

BarbM32 09-23-2011 07:22 PM

Thanks Pickles for the tip of using masking tape to pull threads out of a reopened seam. Great idea and one I will pass on to my quilt group and most happily use myself. BarbM32

BJSEWS 09-24-2011 04:53 PM

YES, you can sew them on the diaginol in squares going in 2 different directions, or 4 forming a larger sq or slice them in half and sew in different direction or in in triangles and sew with different triangles, oblong and put together say a 4 x5.7.9 " any size you want. wide stripes or narrow, straight across, up and down or diaginol what every your heart desires.
You can use paper for back ground instead of muslin, or any old fabrice you don't know what to with just be careful that the background color does not come thru. I'm sorry is it diagonal or diaginol can't remember and can't find dictionary

I'm sorry if I confused anyone. It's not in the Menu. This topic (the one we are posting in right now) is permanently "stuck" at the top of the "Main" forum section. All you have to do is click on the topic and then click on the link to take you to the page.

I would love to add your collection to the tips page. Can you send it to me in a PM or do you need my email address?

Hi "Chubby Bunny!" (How'd you ever get that name?) Anyway, you said to PM you with tips, and I've sent you two, both in September. According to my PM records, you haven't even read them yet. Is there a better way to get tips to you? I'm sure others would like to know as well. Or has someone else taken over collecting the tips?

Thanks for any info!

Dorian 10-26-2011 07:26 AM

Does anyone know how to get rid of the pencil marks used for hand quilting?

Thank you for taking the time and caring. :P

If you do a "User List" search at the top of the page, you'll see that ChubbyBunny has not posted here since May. I sure hope she is all right!

I used hairspray to get rid of pencil marks from a good leather purse Took several times spraying and much rubbing very soft cloth. Had to be careful not to discolor the leather. Also I used hairspray to remove both regular pencils and colored pencils and ink from white leather sofa and chair. At one time I had a 30ft hall newly papered and crayolas as high as a 5 year old can reach. I bought "OOPS" in Wal-Mart paint used it accordingly and came through with narry a smudge. What can you say, We were painting murals on the top and she wanted some of hers on the bottom.

I recently saw that you had a Pfaff Expression 3.0 which I am considering buying. Could you tell me the pros. & cons. and also if you FMQ on it. I have seen a lot of problems mentioned and want to be sure my money is well spent. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Thank you ever so much, for doing this. I am getting pretty frustrated! Now we have some concise direction and a place to find some answers!!

Great!!! Thanks.

A tips page sounds great. There is a lot of stuff to shuffle through sometimes and now it is even a little harder. Hope I can find the tips page. I personally do not like the change to the new system. I am new and the old one was so easy to get around, even as a novice. I retired from my job because they got this new system and 7 years later it is still a nightmare, I hear all the time.

Sierra 11-03-2011 05:52 AM

Oh dear! I got so excited because I'm hoping for a "tips page" (sort of a QB for Dummies) that will define terms (ones used on QB for navigation) and say in first grade English how to find/use links, etc. And you are talking about quilting itself! That's good, even great, but I still think a navigation tips page would help a lot of us who are struggling. Can you set that up also? I never did figure out how to post pictures in the old system... people would send me help but I couldn't find the words they were telling me to click on (I have a Mac). Maybe I'm the only one who needs hand-holding help......

I'm editing this because I just noticed at the bottom of the page these terms....
tag cloud, BB code, pingbacks, refbacks.... I haven't a clue.

Happy Quilting!

I don't see "Tips" at the top of the Main Page. Am I looking and just not seeing ?? The only way I found my way to the tips was by using the link you provided. I hope there is a more visible route to tips ...

Hi, I sent you a PM with a link to a blog where the Pfaff QE 4 is discussed extensively. FMQ was heavily discussed.
Here's the link: http://carolinapatchworks.com/blog/2...ter-one-month/

I had been considering purchasing this machine but decided against it after reading the blog. That said, maybe the newer models have resolved the issues.

Thank you so much for making it easy.
