All I can say is, "I'm in LOVE". I wish I'd discovered it sooner. Anybody else love theirs?

tjradj 10-17-2010 03:47 PM

My 1/4" foot is not my favourite.
But my walking foot sure is. Once I discovered that I can move my needle position to the left or right in tiny increments, I figured out where exactly on the foot to use as a reference and where exactly to set the needle for the perfect "scant 1/4 inch." Sure makes a difference!

amma 10-17-2010 03:50 PM

I have the "Little Foot" and love it :D:D:D

newquilter10 10-17-2010 04:06 PM

I hope the new machine I got at the auction has one. There were about 15 feet with it. Too busy and will soon be heading south so will not get to play with it until the spring. I am taking my old machine with me since I know what it does.

akrogirl 10-17-2010 04:22 PM

The 1/4" foot sure makes my piecing life easier

lab fairy 10-17-2010 04:26 PM

I love my 1/4" feet (one is bladed and one isn't) and really like the fact that they work with the IDT which is like a built in walking foot for my Pfaff.

These are the best inventions. If you ever use a Kwik Sew pattern they are also great since most are 1/4" seam allowance.

gale 10-17-2010 04:37 PM

I love mine. I had the little foot and it was great too but when I got my first Janome about 11 yrs ago I bought a regular patchwork foot and it was SO nice to have the snap on type. Now, though, I have the Janome clearview 1/4" foot and like it so much better.

I want the bladed one..!!!!!!! I can only imagine how easier it would make my life!!!

My Pfaff has a built in walking foot. LOVE IT!~!!!!

oksewglad 10-17-2010 06:03 PM

I love mine too. I sew a lot of small pieces and once I started sewing with the 1/4" foot my accuracy has greatly improved. Don't sew without it now.

Glenn 10-17-2010 06:07 PM

What is a 1/4" foot? It sounds like a nice attachment to have.

Bluelady 10-17-2010 06:09 PM

The bladed one made so much difference! I decided to keep quilting after I got it. I was getting pretty frustrated before that.

dasmith2 10-17-2010 06:10 PM

Im not sure if I like it or not. It doesnt have the guide. I think a guide would make a great bit of difference

The one with the guide is the one I have. Did I mention how much I LOVE it. lol

GrandmaJeanne 10-17-2010 06:28 PM

Don't know about the clear view 1/4" foot for the Janome, I have the 1/4" foot that came with the machine. What is the differance between the two?

Maybe once or twice
;-)

janRN 10-17-2010 06:37 PM

I'm making the Farmers Wife Sampler quilt and if I didn't have my 1/4" foot (with blade) I'd never get those small pieces to line up. I love it!

I'm not sure but you can look at all the different feet for Janome machines at http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/...es/Accessories

It has a blade at l/4" on the side of the foot so all you have to do is keep the fabric bumped up against it. Then your seam is the same all the way through. Clear as mud?

Linda B 10-17-2010 07:19 PM

Mine has the guide on the right side and I'm so spoiled, I can't imagine piecing without it. LOVE it.

aorlflood 10-17-2010 07:37 PM

For those of you who have the 1/4" foot with the side flange/blade...

When you are doing something like hst's where you are not sewing along the edge of the fabric, do you remove the foot and put a regular foot on? Or can you sew with the blade running ACROSS the fabric?

I hope you understand what I am trying to ask...LOL.

gale 10-17-2010 08:01 PM

Yes you can sew with the blade on the fabric.

A "Snow Bird" coming to be a "Winter Texan"! Welcome. Where do you spend the winter? I am in South Texas, but most Snow Birds go a bit farther South than here.

It's simply see thru so you can watch your fabric go thru and see how close you are to the 1/4" mark. Unless you are having problems with the one that came with your Janome (I have one too), it's not worth the investment.

I think it's pretty clear. And yes, it's the first attachment I bought for my cheap $100 sewing machine before upgrading to Janome's. Makes perfect 1/4" seams. Also, they are under $20.

Mary M 10-17-2010 08:21 PM

I love the 14" foot for piecing. What Mine has the blade also. What is a little foot ....heard of the big foot too but don't know anything about them.

Are you asking about trying to use the foot if you make HST's from squares? If so, no I don't use the 1/4" foot with the blade on the side. I do use a narrow-edge foot that has a blade but it is in the center of the foot (some call it a stitch-in-the-ditch foot).

If I make HST's from bias cut triangles, then I do use my 1/4" foot with the blade.

I'm not sure this explanation helped. I think I just confused myself.

gale 10-17-2010 08:33 PM

The clear foot can also be made into a 1/8" foot. Not a big deal for some probably. I like a 1/8" seam (like for shadow quilting) sometimes.

it is a snap on foot, and i believe,it can be bought for high shank or low shank machine. so be sure to ask, to get the right one.

"big foot" is used for Free motion quilting. it also goes by what machine you have..

I recommend the bladed one to all my students. Wouldn't be without one (I have at least 3(:) one for each machine:)

watterstide 10-18-2010 03:06 AM

Just a heads up, to the new piecers/quilters, just because you have a 1/4" foot on your machine, does NOT mean you get the 1/4" seam allowance!
your machine needle needs to be moved to the left or right, to get the proper seam allowance.

"getting the 1/4" seam allowance" video (one way)

quiltmaker 10-18-2010 03:18 AM

I would never have the preciseness (is that a word) if I didn't use my 1/4 inch foot. It is a must have for me. Same with my sid foot. Makes quilting so much easier and fun!

nanaquilt 10-18-2010 03:28 AM

I have 1/4" foot with the guide and I love it.

Husqvarna Viking just came out with a walking foot with interchangeable feet, so now I can have my walking foot AND the 1/4" foot, and even a SID foot. It is awesome! I can put it on my Topaz and use the other machines for something else.

Yes, you can, just be careful if you are doing bias because it can tend to stretch it a little.

Judith 10-18-2010 05:03 AM

Absolutely! I, too, love mine. It has made a huge HUGE difference in how accurate my seams are. They're still not perfect but they are improving steadily.

chemil33 10-18-2010 05:10 AM

Love it-- keeps my seams straight and even.

janb 10-18-2010 05:15 AM

I have the 1/4" foot with the guide and find my accuracy is so much improved. Just love it and recommed it to everyone.
My Sew and Vac man took it off of a machine he had for sale on the floor. How's that for accomodating?

We go clear down to Alamo, TX. All the towns run together, Wesleco, Donna, us, San Juan, now I will get them out of order but, McCallen, Pharr and Mission.

Love , Love it down there.Texas is so friendly.

mjorgenson 10-18-2010 06:06 AM

The clear view foot has markings for starting and stopping 1/4 in when piecing and has 2 blades to attach. One for the quarter inch and the other for stitch in the sitch. Most of our customers rave about it. It is also just a quarter inch all by it's self.

Lilyized 10-18-2010 06:21 AM

I have one with the guide. Love it, however be careful to stay just off the guide as opposed to bumping up to it with your fabric otherwise you may not have an accurate 1/4 " seam. I learned this the hard way!
