1/4" foot with both left & right "prongs" being 1/4"
 

On my domestic machine when I'm quilting small straight lines on a bed-size quilt I like to be able to sew 1/4" to the left of the seam line as usual and then instead of turning the whole quilt around, lift foot and put needle down 1/4" to the right of the seam and sew in reverse. I guess-timate it now and have looked but would love to find one with both side of 1/4". All the ones I've seen have a bigger prong to the left of the needle. (I have a Pfaff Espressions 3.0)

Anyone know? Google didn't find one. Maybe a glass shop could cut my plastic one for me?

I have Brother machines. I found an open toed foot that has the same size prongs on each side. To get my quarter inch on the right, I use the left needle setting and then come back .5. That lines me up so that I am running the edge of the fabric on the inside of the right prong. That way I can look at the fabric all the way to the needle. I would think that it would work the same by using a needle left setting and use the inside of the left size of the open toes foot.

This is the more expensive Brother labeled foot similar to the one I bought which was a generic and would fit multiple machines. I don't like plastic, because I can't always see it that good for lining material up.

My Bernina 440 QE 1/4" foot is the same on both sides.

Also, if you put the fabric at the outer edge of the foot, your seam is 1/4". If you put it at the first indent, your seam is 1/8". And if you put the fabric right at the edge of the foot closest to the needle, your seam is 1/16". A good thing to know when you are topstitching purses, totes, clothing, etc.

Well, after looking over my big Brother, I don't have a right needle setting. That was a surprise, but since I have never looked for it and I bought my machine in 2007, I haven't missed it. So, I set the needle as center, then moved it to the right as 6.0mm and this gives me the left 1/4 inch at the inside of the left prong. By the way, I don't sew with the single needle plate, I always use my zigzag opening because I am always moving the needle when I am piecing.

mckwilter, what needle setting are you using - center?

I know that the Little Foot made by the Purple lady was 1/8" on the left edge while 1/4" on the right edge. I never checked my Bernina piecing foot to see if it the same on both sides.

Thanks, Barb and everyone! Here is a blurry picture of my 2 1/4" feet. I want one for straight stitch and don't want to adjust my needle position, etc. for the frequent (a few inches) changes I need to make.
The plastic one is a little better and I can at least see thru it. It's just so much easier to hop to the other side of the seam and reverse than to turn the quilt around and reposition it. I'm about to echo quilt a Hunter's Star, super King size and this would be soooo handy to do! I'll check with the glass store and see if they can trim or sand the plastic one. Will let you know!

Wow, Nancy! Believe my machine takes short shank. certainly I'll try to get in touch with them. It's ideal because it is the straight stitch I want! Thanks very much! I'll follow up and let you know. Reasonable price, too!

Darn, Nancy, I just saw a review that says it will not fit a Pfaff because the bar is too short!! Oh, heck, it was such a great find. I will still call them to see if they have others like it.

This looks great! I wonder if it fits the Janome 6600??
