I see the 10 minute block on this site and it's on my to-do list, at least one day. Anyway, I was looking at a local quilt shop class list and they are teaching this block but in the sample quilt they added another of the the center pieces that you wedge between the four blocks. It looks like when you make two rows of the 10 minute block, before you sew the rows together - you add in the middle piece between the two rows as if it's another block being made. I haven't tried this but it would make for a different looking layout. You can check out Calico Station in Jacksonville, FL for the picture under classes.

That sounds pretty. Funny, I was just thinking of that block. Someone posted one and I love it! :D

I didn't see the 10 minute block class listed. What are they calling the class?

Sorry, I look at too many sites. It's actually Country Crossroads in Orange Park, FL. http://www.countrycrossroad.com/

looks like they made a 10 min block out of 4 10 min blocks. looks kinda neat, might just have to try that. Thanks for the site.
I saw a 10min block layout here yesterday and thought of adding that additional block that you mention. i agree, it would probably look good.
Diane, are you going to sign up for this class??
I'm thinking about it, have to check my schedule. |
Neat idea.....thank you for sharing!
LOL... that's what I did when I made a special block...looked kinda neat to me
I have seen pictures posted here, with that auxilliary insert between completed blocks. It is very pretty.
The ten minute block is also the same as the raised bowtie block, but done with two of one color and three on the bowtie...it's a cool block to make!
Interesting layout. I made the ten minute blocks using 10" squares. It make a fast and very pretty quilt. I machined stitched the small square edges toward the center since the 3D squares were too big to leave open. I made a cathedral window block as the demo shows.

Thank you for sharing this variation with us :D:D:D
That's cute! I love the muffin top material!!
I would sign up for the class!!! Looks great
No I'm not because I think I can figure it out. Can you PM me? Thanks.
I think it is the second quilt on that site.... there is another diamond sewn between each 10 minute block...look again.

I think it is the second quilt. look again... there is another small block sewn between each block.

You can go to amazon.com and search for the ten minute quilt block or Suzanne McNeill. She also has a book 2 that just came out. I made the one like that quilt shop is offering, but I bought the book. It's a lot easier to get a variety of looks if you actually have the book. The online video is nice, but I needed the book. It's kinda tricky putting it together so you don't wind up with two fabrics alike right next to each other. Or, it was for me anyway. I seem to struggle with the easy stuff! LOL
Good luck with it and be sure to show us what you made. Oh, I almost forgot. I saw those blocks done a few weeks ago by someone who joined them using the QAYG method and I just loved everyone she did. I thought it really added to the finished quilts. |
Love this variation. THANKS
Very pretty. Let us know if you try it.
I went to that site and couldn't find the block - do you have the name?
thanks darlene |
Where can I find this block?
Thank you |
I have a tutorial for this on our own QB. Look under tutorials posted by my name and it is step by step for this! Love this block, especially when you can do a cheater cathedral windows with it!

I did that with a lap-size quilt I recently peiced. Didn't have any instructions so I had to figure it out myself. Will try to get my son to post a picture for me.
Very nice. Enjoy the class. And don't forget to post your project!
That is cute, but how on earth do you find their fabric to look
at. Can't seem to find it  Marilyn |
I'm not sure you need a class, it is very simple! I practiced with half sizes and it is really fast!

They have a new book out with more fast blocks, looks like they would be fun blocks to do.
Interesting! Thanks for posting!

Thank for posting this. I am about to try making my first "real quilt" in a couple of weeks. Up until now I have only done paper foundation purses and mini quilts.
I had already decided to do the ten minute block and I like the idea of this additional demension in the quilt. |
where are directions for the 10 minute block
It is very pretty. I wonder if the gal would place the instructions on her site so we can purchase them. Thanks
I went on her site blog.suzannemcneill.com. I think she has both books for sale. One is the 10 minute block and the other is 10 minute block 2.
Look on you tube 10 min block. Very simple. It ends up with a diamond in the center. 3 seams 5 blocks.
