Went to my cardiologist yesterday, and got a good report. He thinks my pacemaker is working good. It actually records when it needs to help your heart. Anyway on my way home, I stopped to check out a new store and what should my eyes behold?????Yes, a Singer Red Eye in a beautiful cabinet. It was so gorgeous and itin such good shape, I knew it had to be mine. I bought it for $100. Serial number # G6984049. i would like to find a manual for it.

Great find!

For a moment there I thought you were going to tell us that your cardiologist was fixing your Red Eye!

dunster 09-15-2011 06:46 AM

Congratulations! Your machine is a model 66 from 1919. If you would like to pm me with your email address I will email you a bunch of manuals for it.

ckcowl 09-15-2011 07:04 AM

all you have to do is visit the singer site- you can enter the serial #, model # and it will tell you the exact (birthdate/place of manufacturing) and you can download a manual for free- or purchase one.
great find!

They changed the site around and removed that section from public view. But you can still get to it - just enter 'serial #' in the search box, or start here: http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers

That's not working anymore :( Now all it tells you is the year your machine was "born/issued"

Darn, they've changed it again! Luckily a few people downloaded all the information while it was still available. ;-)

WOW That is Beautiful!!!

LoriEl 09-15-2011 12:26 PM

beautiful!

Yooper32 09-15-2011 12:30 PM

Looks to be a 66 which I think is much better than getting a 127 because of the round bobbin. That is one beautiful machine and the cabinet is wonderful. You really lucked out.

nellie 09-15-2011 12:32 PM

wow looks like it was mean,t to be yours.

Aquarius 09-16-2011 03:01 AM

I bought a treadle just like it a couple of weeks ago and I downloaded a manual off the internet. I also paid $100 for mine but it needed a belt and the presser foot and tension were seized so I took it to my machine repair man and it cost me $170 to get it all fixed but I think it was worth it. I've even sewed a couple of blocks on it. Wooks like a dream. The manual came in handy when I had to wind a bobbin. I couldn't remember how to do it. yours is probably similiar to mine. Go to Singer.com and check for a manual.

sewbizgirl 09-16-2011 03:14 AM

Get some Gojo-without pumice- from your auto parts shop and gently clean the machine head. It looks like some beautiful decals are waiting for you under the layer of gunk. Once you clean off the surface grime, you can rub a little machine oil over it and it will GLOW!

Inside the machine, put some Liquid Wrench everywhere the manual shows to put oil, and let it sit a bit. Then come back and clean that out with brushes, Q-tips, rags or whatever. Then re-oil the machine and it should run as great as it ever did.

Enjoy your beauty! These are the best machines... same model as mine in my avatar. It's my favorite to sew on and treadling is so relaxing and peaceful.

I thought you were going to tell us that as soon as you saw the red eye your heart skipped a beat and the pacemaker actually picked it up. LOL But seriously it sounds great that you are doing well and that you got such a great find.

Here is a cute video, by Treadle Lady, showing how to thread and use a model 66 treadle machine. In the beginning of the video she is showing the cabinet but about half way through it is when she starts showing the machine. I highly recommend her little booklet, also. It's inexpensive and contains loads of info.

Good luck with your new machine. A red-eye was my first vintage machine!! They are so-o-o pretty!

Nice find! I found my 1917 "Red Eye" last month after searching long and hard. You are going to love her when you get her cleaned up. Hope yours sews as perfectly as mine does. They really knew how to make a machine back in those days. Good news about your pacemaker too!

This is a model 127. It takes long bobbins and the standard 15x1 needle. (also known as 2020, 705, 130, HAx1, among other names.)

Like the original poster's 66, these are very easy machines to work on for a hobbyist and replacement parts are usually easy to find and cheap. :)
