I just got this Sunday. My grandmother gave it to me.

My grandmother couldn't remember when the Singer sewing machine she has was made. So I found the Serial number on the right hand side of the machine and called Singer to find out.

It was made in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Oct 22, 1926. The factory was named Elizabethport.

If you do not want to call Singer you can go on their website and look up the serial number yourself. I didn't realize this until after I had already called customer service. Here is the link.

i'm hoping to eventually get my hands on my grandmother's machine. it's stopped up right now in the old house supposedly with snakes living in it. frustrating to me! we'll see after our trip to Virginia in June!

Not yet. I just got it all cleaned up tonight. I did that while the power was out. I dusted it off with a dry cloth. Then I used just a touch of Murphy's Oil Soap (My grandma said thats what she used to clean it) on the wood surfaces and then on the metal i just used a damp cloth.

I am going to try it out on Friday.

how appropriate to have a power outage! and keep on sewing!

henry try a small dab of car polish on a rag for the sewing machine it workes wonders for the finish

Wow! Thanks for the site. That looks just like the Singer that I have. It belonged to my Mom and was passed down to me. She made many quilts on that machine and I'm fortunate to have a few of them. In the morning I'll look for the serial # and log on to the site. I know that you'll have fun with your machine. :)
