I just got this Sunday. My grandmother gave it to me.
My grandmother couldn't remember when the Singer sewing machine she has was made. So I found the Serial number on the right hand side of the machine and called Singer to find out. It was made in Elizabeth, New Jersey on Oct 22, 1926. The factory was named Elizabethport. If you do not want to call Singer you can go on their website and look up the serial number yourself. I didn't realize this until after I had already called customer service. Here is the link. http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html |
By the way... IT WORKS!
|
wow! that's something! have you stitched with it yet?
i'm hoping to eventually get my hands on my grandmother's machine. it's stopped up right now in the old house supposedly with snakes living in it. frustrating to me! we'll see after our trip to Virginia in June! |

Wow! Thanks for the site. That looks just like the Singer that I have. It belonged to my Mom and was passed down to me. She made many quilts on that machine and I'm fortunate to have a few of them. In the morning I'll look for the serial # and log on to the site. I know that you'll have fun with your machine. :)

Awesome....have fun.

I have the same machine, but my grandmother had hers wired for electric. I still use it for curtains :D
|
Awesome Henry! What a wonderful piece of heritage. And it's green- reuse!
|
Very cool machine!
|
She is beautiful! Congratulations Henry.
|
Very cool! What a great family heirloom!

I just bought one just like it at an auction. I got it for $25!! The machine needs a few things, but I checked online and they are still available. My aunt has one like this and I tried to get it from her, but she wouldn't budge.
I had two featherweights 221 and gave one to my daughter. I just love that machine...... thanks for the website. Barb |
I have one that is 1927 and looks just like it. Does it have the attachments? If it does be sure to post more pictures!

Henry,
You can also find on the Singer website what model your machine is and perhaps even download a free manual for it. I was able to find the free manual for my treadle machine which is a model 127 made in 1928. I have several feet and attachments that came with mine. My DH keeps all my machines shined up with Simonize Paste Car Wax. He even uses it on some of the cabinets, they really shine and the fabric slides so easily when sewing. Enjoy your new toy... |

Awesome Henry!!! How wonderful to have your grandma's machine!!! I have always wanted a treadle machine

I had to go down and drag my mom't old portable singer out of the back of a closet ... Ugh it is very heavy to be called such a thing. It is electric, but looks like yours. I checked at your link and found out that it was made january 15, 1951. There are tons of attachments still with it and the case is a rounded top wooden part that fits with the machine. there was thread still on it! LoL!
I am thinking that this is the one mom got for christmas when we were kids. The belt looks like it needs replacing, so I am not going to try it before that gets replaced for sure! I could just see it coming off and hitting me .... my luck. She still used this machine up until she died six years ago. !!! This was fun henry .... Thanks! |

That is a beauty. And it works, Wow. Have you tried it out yet. What a great gift.

Henry,
I don't know if I will use it. But, it is only right to keep it iin good repair, right? The bobbins just crack me up! Like little shuttles. I know this was one sturdy machine for all those years. I have a twenty-some year old bernina 830 that I would go back to if I wanted to use a non-computerized machine. My second machine I ever bought. I still love that machine. A perfect stitch and all those wonderful feet that work great. Are you going to use your grandother's all the time? The treadle is pretty cool! So earthy. |

Here is a pic of mine and the attachments that were in the drawer.....also a pic where electric was done. It is going to have new wiring soon. I just used it for new bedroom curtain. This machine goes really fast. I can remember when it was a treadle, my gram taught me to sew on this. She was born in 1884 and worked in a shirt factory before retiring.
|
OMG Henry! That looks exactly like the treadle I learned to sew on! My mom sold it *pout* I wish now I could have gotten my hands on it, but I wasn't interested in sewing then.
|
I have my grandmother's treadle machine in storage.. I guess I should get it out and refurbish it... I also have the attachments that were in the drawers for it. I don't think she ever quilted, but I know she stitched all of her clothes on it. Thanks for the great idea to find the serial number and get it dated.. much appreciated. :-)

I have these attachments for a singer treadle machine . Dad gave my youngest sister our Grandma's treadle and let it get ruined ! I remember sewing on it before she passed away . Here's a couple of pics . Annie

Way too cool!!! I just love those old machines!!
|
Thats a lot of little attachments. :)
Sorry to hear it got ruined. |
Could I bother you to take a picture of the wrought iron sides of the table? I have an old Singer base in my basement that looks very similar to this one... belonged to my grandmother but the machine and table top are long gone. As soon as I saw your picture memories came flooding back!
Thanks! Lori |
