I've read to dampen the center and bang it with a rubber mallet/hammer.

Thank you for suggestions. I was thinking hammer too, will have to raid sweetie's shop and see if he has a rubber mallet I could use.

If you stop sewing 1/4" from the middle when your sewing your last seams it will lay flat too
