I told folks who asked me what I would like for Christmas to buy me 3 yards of fabric.....and now I have 32 new yards of fabric. I like all of it!! I have all kinds of ideas bouncing around in my head, and sort of wish I hadn't decided to finish three quilts before I start another. (Of course, I can always let those three tops just wait. Two have been waiting for 6 months already. :) )

What a nice way to get something new and different for my stash...

wow 32 yards of fabric. What a windfall. I think it is fun to work with fabric someone else picked out. I once received a bag of fabric from an elderly friend who was moving and had to downsize. It was so neat to organize that bag of fabric and think of her every time I use a piece of it. In fact when I do use a some, I send her a photo of what I did with it. It thrills her to no end to see that fabric in a project. Takes so little to make another person happy. I know it hurt her to part with her beloved stash and she is so happy to see it used. Even made some place mats and table topper from some and sent that to her for her BD. Again she was thrilled.

Wonderful!!!!!

Sewze 12-26-2010 07:26 AM

That's a great idea. I hope I can use up enough of my stash in 2011 to use that idea and not feel guilty for asking.

grammyp 12-26-2010 07:28 AM

What a great thing to ask for. Enjoy your new haul.

Sewze 12-26-2010 07:29 AM

Another possibility would be to make quilts out of those fabrics and give them back in 2012 as Christmas presents to those that gave you the fabrics.

KarenR 12-26-2010 07:32 AM

Happy Quilting!!

stitchinwitch 12-26-2010 08:01 AM

I wish I would have thought of that. I hope I remember it next year. Clever idea.

Tsanchez 12-26-2010 10:23 AM

Oh Wow. What a nice gift. I would be in heaven if I got 32 yards of fabric. Of course, my stash is already huge but I just love the new quilting fabrics that are coming out.

franie 12-26-2010 10:24 AM

Awesome! Lots of UFOs and that is ok.

reginalovesfabric 12-26-2010 10:28 AM

I got a card to hancocks and a bag of 1 yard pieces about 10 and also the cutes sissors holder. I also got an oversized spool of thread with 2 great big needles to decorate my sewing room.

Tweety2911 12-26-2010 11:56 AM

Great idea. Happy quilting for sure!

catmcclure 12-26-2010 03:18 PM

My stepson, who has frozen me out for the last 9 years, got me a present this year - I was totally shocked when he got me a gift certificate for JoAnns. Not only was it a good gift, he'd actually thought about what I like and gotten me something that would appeal to me.

Becca Bear 12-26-2010 04:08 PM

What a great gift idea. Wish I had thought of it! Any pictures?
