3D floppy ears on baby quilt ok?
I’m getting twin girl grand daughters. I have the cute farm block kits i got from a shop hop. One of the blocks is a cow it’s floppy ears. They are only attached to the quilt on one side. Would these be ok for a baby quilt?
Thanks MJ |
I think they would be adorable and safe. I made a baby quilt for a friend that had elephants with floppy ears. Baby loved it and the ears stayed on. I double sewed the ears. First, with the ear extended right side down, then flip the ear back down and sew again .

I would sew the ears several times into the seam. I would quilt a line through the center of the ear to make sure it was not going to be a choking hazard.

I agree with everyone who posted. Make sure ears are firmly attached cuz you know eventually those quilts will be grabbed by the ears and dragged!

My first thought was that they will be chewed, so as everyone else already said, they need to be sewn on *very* well, but I would also stick to simple cotton fabric rather than anything fuzzy/furry/minky style. I personally wouldn't want my child ingesting fuzz (or at least, as little fuzz as possible - they will eat anything/everything. Unless you're at the weaning stage and it's actually food.)
And congratulations on the anticipated granddaughters! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif |
