The block is made up of 4 strips. If I make them smaller the inside blocks would remain the same width and the outside strips would just get smaller - wouldn't they? This is what it supposed to be:

Sashing can be a good answer when seams don't match up perfectly. It will change the look but who cares? It's your quilt.
