This idea is not originally mine.
Challenge yourself to do something quilting related for at least 15 minutes a day. Lots of days most of us get caught up with life and don't get to sew or quilt. Why bother if you can only do 15 minutes. If you set your goal to 15 minutes, it is easier to accomplish. Often I can be unmotivated or tired and don't feel like it. But I say well I can manage the 15 minutes. It is surprising how much can get done in a week at that rate even if it's only cutting or chain piecing or organizing your stash. Lots of times the 15 minutes morphs into an hour or more. It has been surprising to me how pyschologically beneficial this has been for me since I accepted this challenge. Do I sew or quilt every single day for 15 minutes? No of course not, but I get lots more done over time since I started this than I did before. Anybody with me? |
Yes...I'll commit to that...at the moment I have a mass of things going on in my life...the 15 mins will be like a form of quilting meditation. I am convinced quilting and gardening are keeping me from a state of collapse.

Janie, I'm totally with you!!!
I had a dear older friend who quilted 20 minutes every morning and you wouldn't believe how much that adds up!! It was her time to "meditate" and I always remembered it. Thanks so much for the reminder!! |
Does browsing the quilting board count? LOL
I think it might be good for me mentally,so I will commit.
Great idea. I'm going to try that starting tomorrow.
Me Me Me I do work on something related to quilting just about everyday, whether it be sewing, cutting fabric, looking thru quiltig magazines, reading thru this board...Often when I am watching TV, I will sew when the commercials come on as my machine is only about 10 ft. away, and as you said, you would be surprised at how it can all add up..I feel like my sewing is a sort of therapy for me. I will often listen to my MP3 player with Christian music while I sew. Sometimes the time flies by and I have to remind myself to eat etc, by the way Happy Quilting!!!

This is a great idea count me in 15 minutes a day is doable for me!
Sounds good to me!
This is the way I've been quilting for the last couple of years. It works well if you are organised. I use one of my days off from my full time job to cut out my work for the week. I also clean and prepare the machines that I need to use that week and put the work beside the appropriate machine. The days that I am working I can then squeeze in my 15 minutes of sewing without having to spend it searching for my tools, right foot etc.
Count me in!!!
Sounds simple enough. I'll give it a shot!
This is a great idea, count me in.

I sure can use this tecnique with my terrible ADD ;)

I usually do something something quilt related every day between 8 and 9pm if I don't I feel as if I am missing something its a brilliant way of switching of from the whats going on and it makes me relax which I struggle with

Good idea!
People just don't realize how a small time commitment adds up over the longhaul - - Good for you - - making the suggestion! <wave> |
Count me in too. That should help keep me motivated. I just don't know why it is so hard to get motivated lately to do something that I love?

I have been doing this,...many times its cutting or placing pieces to get them ready to sew for the weekends. I get up 15 mins earlier each morning.
Thank you for this post. Just what I needed. Count me in.
I am in, too. Just saying I'm in will keep me motivated. I will feel guilty if I let you down. And, since the stupid time change I get up too early anyway.
I'm in too.

I try to do that already. I am not always able, but many days, 15min is all I get. At the moment, I'm working on hand tying a big quilt...at the rate I'm going, I'll be doing it for the rest of my life.
I'm with you as long as looking at this quilting board for at least fifteen minutes applies!
I'm in. It will help me get started on the day. I can always come back here for 15 mins. any time of day.
I do read the 'Other" sew daily challenge. This idea works! |

I do read the 'Other" sew daily challenge. This idea works! Anyway, I am in on this one, too (with the others), though I didn't specifically say that in my last post. Already this morning, I have been prompted to start folding clothes to get my space open for quilting (my husband will appreciate that!) One of my projects is the new Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt, and because of this thread, I have been motivated to start gathering my fabric from around the bunkhouse to upload a picture of where I started. As a result of your challenge, I remembered two containers upstairs which hold an overabundance of pink and brown. Expect pictures later today, and I am so glad I found this thread <wave> |
I'll give it a try. I have a lot of trouble getting motivated so 15 minutes sounds good. Knowing me, once that 15 minutes is up, I'll want to continue sewing.
I'll commit, I like to sew in the morning when everyone is still asleep, it is so peaceful.
