I accidently broke the prong on the inside of my sewing machine that plugs into my electrical cord. I have a Husqvarna Viking Emeral 203. I took my sewing machine back to JoAnn Fabric where I bought it and they sent it out to a certified Viking repairman. I am told his repairman is the only one in the whole area of Columbus, Ohiothat is cerified. He runs a one man shop and is gone from there half the time due to "family problems". I am truly sorry this man has "family problems" but I am livid that I don't have my sewing machine back. How long is too long to have a sewing machine in a repair shop? And what would you do in my situation?

They need to find someone to help this poor repairman out until he solves his "family problems". This is terrible customer service...

I would write to JoAnn's head office and also to Viking ...they should ensure that service is available for their products...in my opinion 5 weeks is way too long...you need to call Viking and find someone else...

Do you have a secondary machine to use while you wait? If not, I would be calling the shop or the Viking dealer once a day. Christmas is coming and you need a machine.

Yes it is too long imho....i would go pick it up asap and try to find someone else and don't pay him for anything.

I agree...toooo long to wait. Follow-up with Jo-ann's and Viking. I waited 2 months and was given way to many excuses.

That seems wa-a-ay too long to me. I would contact Viking and find out if it is true that this is the only certified repairman in the vicinity. If so, explain the situation and see what they would suggest. Five weeks without my best machine would cause sanity issues!

Yes, it's too long! I had my embroidery machine in the shop from Nov til Jan several years ago. I was frantic!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't be so patient now.

Absolutely too long! They should offer to either send to another district for repair or replace your machine! I would be hopping mad by now!

I have a repair place and depending on what is wrong I get it back the same day.

The most time mine is gone is two weeks but that is with my Janome dealer. Even at that, I have a back up or I too would be balistic.

How far is that from Ashtabula Ohio, we have a wonderful Sewing Machine Shop Case's Sewing Center on Center Street, Family owned...that is where I bought my 2 sewing machines...

I had my Viking serviced this summer. The repairman is 45 minuted from my house, but he is said to be the best there is. It took him one month to service the machine and I will say his work is great. In the past my local Viking dealer kept my machine for over two months for a simple service. So, this other repairman was way better, and his work is guaranteed for one year.

There is another issue. I know from having my Viking serviced, and from hearing from other folks on the board, that since Viking sold to Singer and moved their operations to China - it has been difficult for us to get parts. Not just repair parts either - accessories as well. I had a walking foot on order for several months before it finally came in.

So ... this guy could be waiting on the part.

Also ... Joanne's might not be telling you something correct with regard to him being the "only" certified viking repairman. My guess is the dealers won't work with Joanne's so they have to utilize a non-dealer repairman. I went to the Viking website and did a search on dealers within 100 miles of Columbus. Generally dealers will repair (generally). I see three in Columbus, one in Dublin ... and a few others.

Of course if this is warranty work I'd make sure that another dealer will honor the warranty. If not ... leave it where it is.

Way too long!!! My Pfaff takes at least 5 weeks, sometimes it's closer to 8 weeks for just a servicing! That is why I now am a Bernina fan. As much as I love my Pfaff I will never go back to the local Pfaff dealer here to buy another machine!
The Bernina dealer takes 3 to 5 days for a servicing! My Pfaff is now almost 10 yrs old. That is how old they have to be for the local sew and vac place to do a servicing! Guess where she is going next time!!!

Oh my! 1 week is too long to fix a prong! Get that machine back and see if you can find a better way to fix it. 5 weeks!

I live in the same town as Janet and she's right about there being no certified repairmen. The other shops will work on a Viking but your warranty will be null. I used to sell these machines and the shop's owner went under and all the repair went as well. It's a horrible thing and if anyone is looking for a new career this would be a good one. You are right about the China thing. Terrible for a wonderful company to sell out like that. Mine is very old and one day I'll have to make a decision on what kind to buy next.

My machine was in the shop pushing 3 months. The thing still acts up.
