It's water soluble, so all you would have to do is wash the baby quilt before using it or giving it away.

Sulky has a new environmentally-friendly non-toxic basting spray. You will find it by Googling.

All basting sprays should be used in well-ventilated areas. Non-toxic or not, you do not want to be breathing in the spray!

Oh, and you never want to use any sprays inside the house if you have pet birds. Not sure what it is that's bad for them, but you have to research thoroughly before using stuff around birds. Wasn't it Febreze that was so toxic for them?

I was hoping to use it on a flannel baby quilt with a "Minky" backing. Vendor said to be sure to baste like mad before quilting as it can squiggle around, which is why the adhesive spray would seem useful. I've prewashed the flannels and the Minky backing already but will wash it again after it's completed, just to be safe.

It works just fine for hand quilting. This is what I use, and sometimes it takes me 6 months to finish a quilt. I have no problems with it holding.

I have been thinking of basting my quilts, as to do free motion and having to start and stop to take out pins really stink. I just get into the pattern things are goind smooth and I have to stop and take out a pin. I think from what I am seeing the basting spray is a bit pricey? Guess I could use my 40% off coupon on that at Hancocks and try it anyway. Maybe I could get several quilts out of one can?

I couldn't figure out a way to reply to both this question and the handquilting one.

I bought a small June Tailor can and it made it through 1 queen and 2 60" square quilts. My next purchase will be of 505. A girlfriend of mine insists that 505 can do 4 queen size quilts. You just don't want to spray it until it's wet. Just a layer of mist is all you need.

Regarding the handquilting question, I agree with purplemem. It took me 2 months to handquilt the last lap size...but it took me almost 8 months to quilt the bigger one and I never had a problem at all.

I'm too afraid of using just the spray, so I pin as well, but only sparingly, just in case it doesn't want stick anymore. But I haven't run into that yet.

I get 3 queens out of one can. Approx $10 per can, where ever you buy it.
