Is 555,000 stitches on a floor model sewing only machine a lot of stitches??

I can't really judge number of stitches because I've never had a machine that counts this. It certainly sounds like a LOT of stitches. Does this sound possible or is it more likely the machine was used and possibly a trade-in?

That's only about 55,500 inches.

What kind of machine is it. If it's embroidery, it's not very much.

It is only sewing (no embroidery). 55,500 inches equals 4625 yards. This just seems like a lot of sewing for a floor model. When I did the warranty registration online, a different store came up as the original store of purchase (it was still local but was not the store I purchased it from--I had the option to select the correct store if the one displayed was not correct so I did).

The maximum stitch speed of my Bernina is about 1000 spm (stitches per minute). That would equal 555 minutes, or 9.25 hours, at maximum speed, or more hours at a slower speed (more likely). That doesn't sound like a lot to me, for a machine used as a demo. (BTW, that 4625 feet, only 1541 yards.)

I am confused. Original post is 555,000 stitches but then the figure 55,000 is used.

555,000 stitches equates to 55,000 ***inches***. I had to read it a couple of times before I figured it out.

Yes, and my math was wrong. I thought I had already divided 55,000 by 12 to come up with feet and then I divided by 3 for yards. I skips the inches to feet part. 555,000/10 stitches per inch = 55,500 inches/12 inches to a foot = 4,625 feet/ 3 feet per yard = 1,541 yards.

When I bought my floor model, the shop owner gave me a full warranty - so if they do that, and a good discount, why not?

squirrelfood 08-02-2014 02:56 PM

I bought a floor model Singer back in '83 that had more "mileage" than that on it (I know, I worked that sale floor). I'm still using it, and I've ALWAYS been a heavy sewer.
