I did. I started just around that age. I'm now 73. My first quilt was done entirely by hand. It is a sampler quilt custom sized to fit my double size platform bed with a set of drawers in the base.
I'm now learning to machine quilt. I love this message board. Also watch the quilt shows on public tv.
I work slowly and have a few other hobbies. But, that's what I love about retirement.
Hope you enjoy yourself as much as I do. Learning something new is very good for the brain.

I started last year at 62 after many years of sewing and having a deep desire to quilt. And I truley enjoy it so very much. It is my personal time away from the mundane and
never want to quit. I do not think there has has to be a
limit on age to begin quilting.So....quilt on ladies....

You are not alone. I began quilting at age 63 in 1999. Oh, My God! That makes me 75+ today and I'm still going strong - a little bit slower but still quilting. I have the time and sometimes the dollars to spend on quilting, it also have made me a huge amount of online quilting friends as well as many in person quilting pals. May in Jersey

I started quilting about 25 years ago and next month I'll be 65 - so if I do the math right - 40 years of quilting. I don't even want to speculate on how many yards of fabric I have used over those years - lots. I wouldn't do anything else though.

I am 66 and made my first quilt top in 2003. In 2002 my husband and I moved from the Bay Area to where we live now in the Sierra mountains outside of Sacramento, CA. I was Tole painting little wooden things at that time. However, all the ladies in the area we moved to were quilters. So, to get aquainted with my neighbors, I decided to join them and learn how to quilt too. I now have a really nice group of friends and I'm loving it.

I made three quilts when I was 34, and came back at age of 65. Mainly quilts for children and Grandchildren and this time I don't want to stop. I can't knit or crochet anymore because of arthritis so quilting takes up where they left off.
