I came home from work one day only to find what looked like a very bazaar spiderweb on my floor and stairs. My cats had gotten ahold of fully wound bobbin.I laughed for quite awhile cleaning it up.

Everything I have dissapeared! Gotta love them!

my cats rarely are in my sewing room for many of the reasons stated here, but my Maine coon Angie loves wool and leather. she ran off with a skein of wool sock yarn and ate a little leather/fur ball we bought for her birthday. she ate it on hers and threw it up 2 ays later on my DH birthday! my son's cat lost his wedding ring. even with moving the furniture he couldn't finde it. when he moved, he did find it lodged somewhere the cat couldn't retrieve. yeah-ya gotta love them!

I heard her playing with something in the hall the other night when we were trying to go to sleep. Woke up the next morning and the marker, which I had left on my sewing table, was gone. I have no idea where she put it! Just thought I'd share, not sure whether to chuckle or scold her. I should be nice - maybe she's making a little quilt of her own for me for Christmas. ;) Ever have a pet steal your quilting supplies? My kitty used to do the same thing to me. His favorite hiding place was under my very heavy antique dresser. One house had wood floors which made sweeping under the dresser easy but the next house had carpet and things didn't come out so easily. I never thought I'd miss trying to retrieve my notions but since he's passed on there's something missing when I sew. Pets are great company... Andie  |
Baby loved to play with anything that had my scent on it. His favorite hiding place was under a heavy antique dresser. When the dresser was on a wood floor it was no problem to retrieve with the sweep if a yard stick. however, when I moved the dresser was on carpet it was a different story. I never thought I miss fetching my sew notions from under that dresser but since Baby passed away my sewing is missing his little antics.

My puppy once stole one of the applique blocks that I was working on. I had left it in the middle of the dining room table with all the little pins in it so when I returned later I could just pick it right up and work on it. When I entered the house later in the day my dog acted like she had a prize in her mouth just for me and she could hardly wait to surprise me with it. Needless to say it was my applique block - to this day I still have no idea how she got it off the table. The pins by the way had all been removed and were actually all in a pile in front of the fireplace - guess they weren't tasty and I was lucky she didn't actually swallow them. I couldn't believe it. The block only had one little hole that was easily covered up with a leaf or flower. I can laugh about it now...it wasn't so funny when it happened.

She doesn't steal my sewing stuff but mine loves to hide her toys under the sofa in the family room.

2 of my cats like to lay on my fabric (one black cat and one
white cat), the black one likes to steal the thread off of my sewing machine and run all over the house with it so I make sure my cover is on the sewing machine when I'm done. The gray one is our klepto kitty, she's not consistent in what she swipes though. One time she swiped my keys, it took me an hour to find them. She also likes to swipe my fabric pieces off of the design board and hides them. Eventually I find them (usually) otherwise I just have to cut out another piece (which is why I always buy extra fabric). Gotta love em! |

Well, it is nice to know I don't have the only problem fur-child. I have to keep my pincushion in a drawer, because my Bruno likes to pull the pins out and drop them in a pile. When I catch him at it, he looks at me with this satisfied look of "see, I can help too!" on his face. When it is bare, he walks away and waits his chance again.

Interesting avatar by the way. Is there a story to it?? |
One day I dropped my seam ripper on the floor at the shop where I work part time. I was in the middle of something and didn't pick it up right away. When I went to get it, it was nowhere in sight. We also have a delightful teacup poodle as a store mascot (Skeeter) After looking everywhere else checked her bed. Sure enought it was hidden under all her toys. Of course now we look there first if anything is missing.

When my DS was a baby our cat would pull all the pins out
of my pincushion and leave them on the floor for him to find. Tiger also thought he could catch the machine needle while I was sewing. I wasn't a quilter yet, not until 8 years later when my DD was a baby. I'm allergic to cats now and have 4 dogs, they don't steal my stuff. They all lay in my sewing room when I'm in there. They've all learned a valuable lesson, it hurts to stick one's nose in the treadle wheel when I'm sewing. The 2 small dogs have learned not to nap on the treadle pedal, it will throw you on the floor. |
 One of my cats took off with my thimble! I have been missing it for weeks and had to buy another one. Well, my DGD found it on the floor in the kitchen yesterday! Hummm, I wonder where they squirrel things away at sometimes, because I don't find them when I clean! :(

my dog millie doesn't mess with my sewing or quilting. but, she eats any unattended socks or kleenexes.
|
Are you kidding? Rusty will grab anything he can get his mouth on in the quilt room. He loves to be with me in the room but I have to really watch where he puts his foot - he really likes to put it on the foot pedal which does NOT help my quilting at all!!! LOL. I have containers beside the pedal, under the desk, with a little tiny space for my foot pedal - but he somehow manages to end up on the pedal 9 times out of 10. Oh well, I love my helper - just have to be extra cognizant of where he is at all times!!!!

Whoo! Sure glad I have an "outside" cat! Cinders is black with beautiful green eyes and I just find dead mice and moles on my porch! I have a hard enough time finding where I have left things! LOL!
|
Our pup would find straight pins and bring them to me in his mouth. He would lay them on my leg as I set at the machine sewing. Or wherever I was in the house. He did it for years.

Both my cat and my dog are thieves. No pen, pencil or plastic cup, pop can, stray piece of fabric, Lego, Nerf dart, etc, etc, is safe. The dog has a special liking for pencils. She eats the tip first. If I get it fast enough there is enough left to sharpen again and start over.

Well, they don't call them "paper schnauzers" for nothing. Hehe. I've got my second schnauzer and she is the same as the first one - not happy unless she has something forbidden in her mouth.!

He is a real garbage gobbler... last year he ate almost a full roll of paper towels because the first one on the roll smelled good. four cans of pumpkin later his bowels got unplugged! Naughty Neeka, 6months old |
My pup likes to lay on foot pedal box, when I use that machine. Otherwise will paw at me to hold and hug and kiss her, then she is fine and will lie down.

I had been keeping my 5 piece butterfly applique pieces together with a paper clip and Elmo, the cat, grabbed #6 of 20. I had heard him playing with something, but didn't realize what his toy was until I was ready for #6! Had to get DH to help me look for it, he was so excited everyone was on the floor playing the same game!-only took 1 hr. :) Yep, I was mad, but when he starts blinking those baby blues at me-he was forgiven. Now I cover everything I working on.

I have learned to keep the wastebaskets away from the table edges. My two "critters" love to clean the table tops and I can't begin to tell you how many tools I have lost--LOL. Apparently batting a seam ripper into a trash can is much more exciting than chasing a ball with a bell in it.
|
My cats, especially the one in the ID pic, will play with anything that slides across the floor. I find their toys, empty thread spools that I give to them, leaves that manage to get in the house, in the oddest places. Cats just like movement and anything that rolls like a pen is a real hit with them. I cleaned out a hall closet last week and found a spool, a cat toy, and one other item that had managed to slide under the door that he was playing with.

Mine like to take the pins out of blocks I have pinned to the design wall. I can't tell have many times I have had to re-design a quilt. What is it about pins that they like. It isn't just the glass heads because they also like the coursage pins I use on my longarm.
Harriet our 3 year old rescue cat loves to bring me yarn. She goes into the guest room and under the bed where I store my extra yarn and bring me her prize, most of the time crying out as she walks through the house. If I talk to her she stops crying and just looks at me. I am not sure what she wants or needs. I wish I knew what is going on. Since she wears a bell around her neck, maybe this is the only prey she can catch. |
yes my cat "TEE" sits and pulls the pins out of my pincushion if i get up from my sewing table and dont cover the pincushion up. darn little boy guess he figures i shouldnt be stopping.
|
Rosey likes to come in and lay on the fabric I am trying to iron. She also chewed a pink marking pencil. When I made a jeans quilt out of DH old jeans, Mike would come in and lay on them. Even though they were washed, he knew they were "dads"!
|
It is probably under something that she can't reach under. That's what my cats do. Lots of things end up under the couches.
|
Yes, my dog ran off with my seam ripper! She likes to chew on the handle - it's an ergonomic one and is rather squishy. I rescued what was left of it from her once, but haven't seen it in quite some time.... :x ended up finally just buying another one.
|
My cat likes to jump up on the table when I am sewing and meow at me. If I don't give him the attention he wants, he will start batting at my supplies until they fall off the table!

mine likes to take of with my scissors, but who could spank her.

This is so cute. I got the biggest kick out of you saying, "I should be nice, she might be making a quilt for you for Christmas". I laughed out loud and thought that was absolutely adorable. I have to beloved fur babies of my own and yes, they will hid sewing tools and sometimes those items will not show up for weeks. It's just so funny.

My cat takes off with anything she can carry. Her favorite is my cleaning brush, with ribbon running a close second.

I love reading all these stories!! They are so funny and so indicative of our furballs personalities!! :) My kitties like to pre-fur all my quilts. If I leave an unfinished block out, they plop down right on it to make sure it has the optimal amount of fur. LOL They also found a little rubber snake I had for my Halloween village and kept taking it off the village, playing with it, and I would find it in the middle of the floor. No matter what shelf I put it on to get it away from them, they found it and it would end up in the middle of the floor again! They are so funny sometimes!! :)

Our little chuaua (spelling) likes to steal my markers too, and has gotten into a couple of sharpies. Now I am very careful to keep them out of reach since our furniture is (of all colors) white
