??? about scrappy quilts

I have just made a pile and i mean pile of 2 1/2" strips from a lot of leftover fabrics and want to make a scrappy quilt. Do you kind of color coordinate them or do you just grab some strips and start sewing them together randomly. Also what is your favorite pattern to make them. I know they are scrappy but just don't quite know where to begin. Thank you in advance.

Go to www.quiltville.com and you'll find all kind of ideas for scrappy quilts. You can also search the board and you'll find tons more ideas for scrappy quilts.

You can "organize" them to light and dark, or color, or randomly. Maybe a jelley roll type quilt would be a good place to start or rail fence. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...e-t178064.html
This one can be done with matching fabrics or very random. Whatever you choose.....enjoy!

I love log cabins for scrappies, just seperate light and dark. Quiltville ( mentioned in earlier post ) does have some great patterns as well.
If I am getting fussy about my scraps or in the mood to be , I will further sort them into themes - pastel, jewel tones , batiks , then do the light and dark sort once the themes piles are established.
For inspiration search the thread on this board called "The Scappy Quilt Show". lots of great scrappies have been posted.

another easy pattern for strips is to sew 3 or 4 together and cut to square. then alternate the direction for a rail fence quilt.

I prefer to have a mix of widths of my strips when doing scrap quilts. Using all the same size is too uniform in my opinion for scraps. I like to mix up the colors, patterns and strip sizes and I've never been disappointed.

I usually divide them into either blues (greens, reds, purples) or browns (orange, yellow).

Depends on what you like. I prefer to color group. Others are happy to take whatever out of the bag and use black or navy sashing around a large group to make them play nice together. You might even consider just separating the light and dark, using the dark in one section of the quilt and the light in the other. That's what I'm doing with my 2 inch squares. The darks are being made into hearts, and all the lights will be used to make the pieced border.

Here is an idea for your scraps. I have many cut into 2" strips and I make log cabins with them. I make some of them sorta color co-ordinated and some are not. I put them all together and choose a setting I like! Fun.
