Do you have an accuquilt? Like it? Pro and cons please.

There have been numerous threads on this subject. Just put Acuquilt in the "search" box at the top of the page and you will find many reviews. I don't have one so I can't help you.

Here's one with 90 replies

My mother just bought one...it just came in the mail. I talked with her and she was having fun using it..LOL I think for scraps it is good. I can't wait to take my scrap fabric down and cut them into squares.

She purchased it to cut into long strips.

I have a Go! With about 18 dies. I only use the hexagon die for my GFG on a regular basis. I have dabled with the other dies, but most of the time I prefer to rotary cut. However, to me it was worth every penny, even if I never use any die but my hex. I am on my second GFG and would have never made it thru cutting out the first one without my Go!

quilttiger 06-10-2013 07:18 PM

AccuQuiltGo is one of my better purchases...no regrets at all. It is easier on my hands to cut strips, squares, etc. more quickly and with accuracy. It is also great for cutting up the scraps in cutting scraps up.

I'm basically lazy, so the accuquilt suits me fine. I'm not rolling in dough, so I don't have but two dies so far.

nanacc 06-10-2013 11:48 PM

I hesitated to buy one for a while. I discovered them on sale at JoAnn's and still walked away. When I returned to the car, my DH, who had been patiently waiting, asked why I didn't buy it. He marched in the store with me and bought it and the 2 1/2" strip die. It came with a starter set of dies. I have only purchased a few more dies and wish I had More! If I only used the strip die and some of the squares, it would still be worth it. I just cut most of my scraps in strips and various size squares and sorted in zip bags.

I keep thinking about getting one, but still haven't been able to convince myself that I need it.

Plumtree 06-11-2013 03:25 AM

It is a great tool for some things. I have one and plenty of dies, have had it for a few years now. It really depends on your quilting how useful of a tool it will be. Do you do a lot of strip quilts, definitely get one. Is it hard for you to cut with cutter or scissors--get one. Basically if cutting is some how difficult, painful, inaccurate, or just plain a pain if you can afford one get one. They can be a great addition to your quilting. I only get mine out about once or twice a month now but I do I make it earn its space in the room :-) 150 charm squares in just under an hour always makes me happy. Also, if you have embroidery machine there is software can be purchased from Accuquilt to go with applique dies. I will be using mine to cut Sun Bonnet Sue/Sam's out of my kids baby clothes and appliquing them on squares with embroidery machine and none of that could be done by me without the Accuquilt. Good Luck with your decision.

Happy quilting

Thanks everyone. I have a friend who is moving from Indy to Delaware and is selling a bunch of her sewing machines, supplies and fabric. The AccuQuilt is one of the things I thought I might be interested in.

h
When I first saw it, I decided it was too expensive getting the dies I wanted. However, just one cutting session with ruler, cutting board, and rotary where my back went out was enough to change my mind. I love it. It's much easier to use and less strain on my back.

DebraK 06-11-2013 04:50 AM

My situation was pretty much the same. I was ambivalent so DH made the decision. No regrets here either. I love it for the HST alone because of the accuracy and no dog ears to trim.

BellaBoo 06-11-2013 04:52 AM

I'm the type that doesn't debate with myself over if I should by something just for me. I learned a long time ago I miss out if I do. I bought the Go it when it first came available at full price. I wanted it to be amazing and it is. I have most all the dies. I buy all the try me dies, they sell out fast and not made anymore for most of them.

BellaBoo 06-11-2013 05:07 AM

duplicate post.

What are try me dies and where do you get them? BTW, my DIL made the decision for me and bought the GO. I love it.

Normabeth 06-11-2013 05:46 AM

I have the Accuquilt Go and seldom use it, the blades in the dies bend out of shape very quickly. The company does not stand behine their product.

Most of my dies are about 6 years old and used all the time. I've never had one bend of of shape. My guild has several Gos and the dies are used many times by different people. One die was dropped die side down and stepped on by very heavy person. It didn't cut after that. We were just glad the die blade side was down! No bending has happened with regular use though. I returned two I didn't think worked good enough after using it and didn't have a problem through Accuquilt. If bought through other sources then it may be a problem returning a used die.

The try me dies are on the accuquilt web site.

UCHSCPSYCH 06-11-2013 07:33 AM

I have an accuquilt and find it a good way to make bindings and any other kind of cuts I have templates for. However, when I bought it I thought I'd be using it all the time but have found I don't use it that much at all. The templates are very expensive to purchase and unless you are a quilter who appliques a lot or does really fancy things I wouldn't recommend it. My purchase was kind of a waste of money for me.

Don't pass it up!

I can't believe machine embroiderers don't know about Sarah Vedeler's Go Bedazzled!

sunni 06-11-2013 01:21 PM

I've been away from this forum for awhile and since I have been debating purchasing an Accuquilt Go! I came here for reviews...I read some the other day and then at 2 quilt shops this past week, I got to see one in action. I fell in love and ordered it from Allbrands. They have the best price anywhere and it should be here Thursday, I can't wait!!!

sewplease 06-11-2013 02:51 PM

Many times when people recommend an accuquilt or other cutter they talk about the speed and ease of cutting. Me? I just think it's FUN!! Great grownup toy!

carolaug 06-11-2013 02:55 PM

I have had mine for several years and love it...I only put in three layers on my go...never any issues. I would not out on 6 layers to had to put though...I perfer just 3 layers. I make quilts that I would never have made without it. Worth every penny to me...

I really like my Accuquilt GO. I have several dies. Make sure to compare prices on the GO and the dies. Prices vary considerably.

patski 06-11-2013 03:06 PM

watch on e bay and amazon you can often get them for 70 % off

mirish2 06-12-2013 03:30 AM

I love the accuquilt for cutting triangles and tumblers as well as strips. My very best quilting friend just purchased a studio cutter. I paid for one of the dies. I just spent two days with her, slicing and dicing. It cuts 10 layers at a time, the die for charm blocks has 8 blocks--in minutes, 80 charm blocks. Love it.

pflum1 06-12-2013 04:54 AM

My accuquilt "go" is several years old and I have about 100 of the dies. I use it for stripes, squares & circle mostly. I don't cut triangle with it as I use a different method of sewing triangle so they don't stretch. I think it's more precious in cutting than using a ruler. Much faster, but I never cut over 4 layers are a time. Do you need one??, Did you need a microwave? It's a new toy and life is short. Do you want to leave all your money to your children to have fun with? I don't drink or smoke, so if I want a new die every month, I have saved enough to get one. I do have several dies that I never have used. Someone was asking how to get the sample dies. If you sign up for Accuquilt newsletter, you will get an email when they come out with a new set of dies.

cdwatson 06-12-2013 08:02 AM

I have just purchased an Accuquilt with the three dies. I will be adding dies slowly as I go along (because of price). Which dies would you purchase first?

BellaBoo 06-12-2013 08:20 AM

Do you want to leave all your money to your children to have fun with
Isn't that the truth! So silly to leave money you could have spent on yourself to be spent by your children after you are gone. DH and I paid every penny of our kids college to give them the head start to take care of themselves and not be dependent on us. We closed the purse strings after the last one graduated.

twoshoes 06-12-2013 10:32 AM

I have the Go machine. It is alright, but the dies are so expensive. If making just one quilt of the die, it is not worth it.

gale 06-12-2013 10:36 AM

I bought one and didn't like it. I sold it but kept the dies, and got a Big Shot Pro. I LOVE my Big Shot Pro.

margecam52 06-12-2013 12:02 PM

It really depends on your prefered quiltmaking style. I do a lot of strip piecing...especially when making half and quarter square triangles, and also nine patch units. I bought the Acuquilt Go! to use for cuttiing strips...got a great deal from a person who was selling her Go and dies...otherwise I would never have gotten one.

I also bought a Sizzix cutter (larger one) & like it pretty well. The dies I got to go with it were not very large..more for scrapbooking.. or maybe a dear Jane quilt.

Would I buy the Go again? Yes, if I could get it at the price I did...full price...if I had the money, probably. Looking for deals on more dies now.

It's good if you have trouble cutting with a rotary cutter or have a arthritis. It would be nice to have one that was automatic, no cranking the handle.

I ordered the Calico Cat, the Calico Dog, the Flowers, the Alphabet, Numbers and hearts and a few mats. Tomorrow is taking a long time to get here LOL and I'll only have part of the order tomorrow. The Go itself. The other stuff is being shipped separately.

I have the Go - love it for hexagon and "apple core" cutting. Prefer rotary cutter for strips and squares.
Also have the rag quilt die and haven't had time to use it yet but looking forward to no snipping!

I was gifted with one, but before I had it out of the box I started a bit of research and learned about Ebony Love. She is the QUEEN OF DIE CUTTING MACHINES. She has tons of video demonstrations on YouTube. Go watch and learn. Her knowledge has been put into a book that should be owned by anyone who wants/needs to use dies as a means of producing parts for their quilts. Based on what I read there, I sold my Go! and purchased a Sizzic Big Shot Pro. The reason? The Big Shot can take dies manufactured by any company, not just AccuQuilt. I also recommend the Yahoo group pinsandneedles1 owned by Kathy who gives a huge discount on Go! dies. [email protected]

oldtisme 06-13-2013 04:20 PM

I buy from Kathy at [email protected] she can get you just about any cutter, die, rulers, gadgets ect at a good discount price!

carolaug 06-16-2013 05:34 AM

I totally agree!!! Worth the money..we save and save money too...but now starting to spend. I want to enjoy life and not just give everything to my kids when I die. Not to say we still do not save a lot for retirement...so we can enjoy it.

I have made several rag quilts. You will love it. Very easy. I use left over batting and make them as I get left over batting. What is nice is when you are done no binding needs to be put on and all the quilting is done as you go.
