The boarder in the first picture is too busy. It over powers the pattern. I would add maybe a solid boarder.

I do not want to buy more fabric and I only have one matching brown fat quarter left. I will bind it in the busy fabric, but from what has been suggested, I thought maybe a pink piping just inside the binding will help break up the white. I have lots of pink. Hub likes pink!

I will use the busy border fabric for the backing.

Thanks all for weighing in! Much appreciated.

I think this will be just lovely. The small binding of the busy fabric will complement the colors of the plates. And a pink flange would be lovely, also. Go for it!

I agree with the majority. No border, And bind it in dark brown. Beautiful bed runner.

quiltstringz 01-02-2014 07:33 AM

I like it without - but the border fabric you showed would make great binding

I always think a border adds the finishing touch.

WMUTeach 01-02-2014 08:09 AM

I like the border. It frames the work and give a nice repeat to the colors in the plates.

Tudey 01-02-2014 08:42 AM

I like it without. The border print is nice, but not for this quilt IMO; it's a little too busy

GrannyFitz4 01-02-2014 08:45 AM

I would add the border. I love your choice of colors.

Diana Lea 01-02-2014 08:57 AM

I did not read all your replies to see if someone else said this. I would use the green you have in the middle of the plates for a border. I really like what you have done.

nls 01-02-2014 09:49 AM

Without the border and a dark binding. It's very pretty!

Paula Fullager 01-02-2014 09:49 AM

I would go with without. I agree that the border is overpowering.

debbiemarie 01-02-2014 10:04 AM

I think the border is a bit too busy for my taste, I'd try a plain border or choose number 2

granny64 01-02-2014 10:51 AM

I always like adding a border. It frames the quilt and adds dimension.

needles3thread 01-02-2014 11:08 AM

I like the 2nd picture lots better than the first.

quiltmom04 01-02-2014 12:13 PM

I wouldnt mind the border, but you need something to separate the outside triangles from the busy border. Otherwise, you're losing them in the busy-ness of the print. Very pretty - it will llook great on a white spread.

MargeD 01-02-2014 12:17 PM

They are both pretty, but I like the border better.

penski 01-02-2014 12:35 PM

i like it with out , the boarder you chose takes away from the pattern

JanieH 01-02-2014 12:47 PM

I like it without the borders - looks cleaner and the dresdens really stand out!

Shorebird 01-02-2014 01:34 PM

add the border…….really nice fabrics!

filewizard25 01-02-2014 01:56 PM

I'd say no borders... looks more modern and the design stands out without being overpowered with a busy border. VERY pretty!

tropit 01-02-2014 02:52 PM

I'm glad that you brought this dilemma up, as I'm going through the same thing. Personally, I've been drawn lately to quilts with no borders, so I say without. That's what I've decided for my own quilt too. :)

wildyard 01-02-2014 03:30 PM

I would add a narrow 1" white border to stop the pattern before adding the bright border. Otherwise, I think the bright fabric overpowers your lovely plates.

joyce888 01-02-2014 03:50 PM

I love the blocks and the sashing and I think the print border makes the QST get lost.

MacThayer 01-02-2014 05:36 PM

I like it without the border, but with a dark binding. That would give it a "clean" look. The added border looks too fussy, and detracts from the Dresden plates. IMHO.

Ditto that !!

mjhaess 01-03-2014 07:45 AM

I like the border best but it is nice without....Very nice....

ellifour 01-10-2014 04:48 PM

I would add a border but using a different fabric. The darker color of the corner stones will frame the quilt, however, it too might overpower the lovely DP. Audition one of the pink on pink or the green from the centers along with the brown. Just be sure that YOU LIKE IT regardless of the consensus of the list.

nannyrick 01-10-2014 05:24 PM

OH, that is so pretty. Love the colors. I like it both ways.

judy363905 01-10-2014 05:26 PM

I vote. Without. Lovely runner :)

rebeljane 01-11-2014 12:13 AM

I would choose another border as I think this one is too busy

Knitette 01-11-2014 02:26 AM

I too think it detracts from the beautiful job you've done - so without the border imho.

nunnyJo 01-11-2014 04:18 AM

add a border as a frame. nice

quilter2theend 01-11-2014 05:27 AM

I would choose a different fabric if you are set on adding a border, that fabric just overpowers the pretty Dresden plates. So I would vote without unless you change the fabric.

nancia 01-13-2014 08:43 AM

Not an expert, but i like it with. Anyway you do it, it will be lovely!
