To add border or not to add border - that is the question. Thanks!

This is going to be a bed-runner for our queen-sized bed. The duvet cover is plain white. I think I know what I am going to do, but your expert opinions will be greatly valued!

i like it either way... very pretty. but to choose, i'd add the border

leatheflea 12-31-2013 01:29 PM

Lovely, I chose without.

AliKat 12-31-2013 01:33 PM

I like without the border so that the overall design shines. Maybe a border if it wasn't so overpowering and the material was easily identifiable in the center portion of your runner.

Just MHO.

nanibi 12-31-2013 01:36 PM

I like it without--better definition on your white duvet. But if you want some kind of outline, how about a narrow border or binding in the dark plaid used in the cornerstones? (cornersquares?)

Tartan 12-31-2013 01:40 PM

I think the border overpowers the pretty Dresden Plates. It would be fine for the binding though.

ube quilting 12-31-2013 01:47 PM

imho, I would add a border but in the same fabric as the cornerstones. The darker color will stop the quilt and frame it. The fabric you have set out for a border is very busy and is a distraction to those very nice DPs and sashing. Keep it simple. Very nice runner you have made.
peace

I prefer it without th black & bright border.

kayluvs2quilt 12-31-2013 02:30 PM

I prefer without borders.

Crqltr 12-31-2013 02:32 PM

I like it without...very pretty!

IrishNY 12-31-2013 02:46 PM

I like it without the border. Very pretty.

dunster 12-31-2013 02:55 PM

How about a narrow white border and then bind in brown?

#1piecemaker 12-31-2013 02:55 PM

I like it either way. Have you auditioned a brown border yet?

ILoveToQuilt 12-31-2013 03:07 PM

I agree with ube...narrow border using the cornerstone fabric. If you don't like this suggestion, I'd go without a border. JMHO.

Hmmmm, I like it with the border. Guess I am just a bit outvoted though. :)

Any border but white.
Think black will be beautiful.

I am trying to do this entirely with what is in my stash. But maybe this calls for a purchase?:D

I agree. Try it and see if you like it. You can also do the binding in the same color. You did a very lovely job.

canuckninepatch 12-31-2013 04:03 PM

I agree with this. I really like it without the border. The other possibility would be a very plain border.

No border. I would use a thin hot pink/salmon flange or binding. The border you have auditioned would make a nice backing-- could serve as an alternative look for the bed runner.

Trisher 12-31-2013 04:26 PM

When I first selected the material for the border, I was going to use plain sashing, or no sashing. I agree that now the border looks too 'busy' with the busy sashing.

I do not want to buy more fabric and I only have one matching brown fat quarter left. I will bind it in the busy fabric, but from what has been suggested, I thought maybe a pink piping just inside the binding will help break up the white. I have lots of pink. Hub likes pink!

I will use the busy border fabric for the backing.

Thanks all for weighing in! Much appreciated.

hopetoquilt 12-31-2013 07:12 PM

Wow. Gorgeous. I want to see it when it is done! Pls post final pix. I would probably say... Without. Black border maybe?

Ruby the Quilter 12-31-2013 07:39 PM

Without the border and would do a dark binding. It is gorgeous.

I like your solution and that DH likes pink, so does mine!

Annie68 01-01-2014 05:43 AM

I would add the border, it's lovely!

cheryl222 01-01-2014 05:43 AM

I would use the white as a border. Wouldn't overwhelm but would finish it and make it a little bigger.

hairquilt 01-01-2014 06:13 AM

I like it without also. If you want it bigger use white border. It's very beautiful! Good job!

susie-susie-susie 01-01-2014 08:17 AM

Very pretty and your points match perfectly. I would skip the border. I think the fabric is too busy. I would be great for the backing though. If you need a border to make it bigger, I would go with the dark fabric.

I also like it with the border. IMHO it will make the runner stand out instead of blending in with the cover! Let us know what you decide. i

DonnaPBradshaw 01-01-2014 08:53 AM

I would try out the fabric of your posts for the border. I think the fabric you've chosen for the border is too busy. just my opinion! you've done a great job.

mighty 01-01-2014 08:59 AM

I like it without the best!

Well, Fabricland has a 50% off everything sale tomorrow. Based on what most of you are telling me, I think I will pick up some dark brown (there is no black in the runner - the brown is just very dark) solid fabric.

I sure wish they carried more speciality type rulers - sure would like both sizes of the twister!

girlsfour 01-02-2014 03:39 AM

That's really pretty! No border - it takes away from the rest of it.

Retired Fire Chief 01-02-2014 04:07 AM

I think I like it without the border, the Dresden plates are adorable, I think that border is too busy. I would like to see how it would look with a solid border if you decide to add one.

quilterpurpledog 01-02-2014 04:45 AM

Even though you have used the border fabric in your dresden plates that much border in this fabric overpowers the beautiful plates. The second design really highlights the plates. If you do a border the cornerstone fabric would not detract. It will be beautiful on the white duvet. Please show us what your final choice is.

southernmema 01-02-2014 05:02 AM

Agree...I really think a less overpowering border would frame it though.

nwm50 01-02-2014 06:00 AM

Love it but not that border...I would use a less "busy" border.

Phillyquilter 01-02-2014 06:51 AM

I prefer without, very pretty runner.

Jingle 01-02-2014 06:57 AM

Very pretty, I would add a border. I think it would look funny on a queen sized bed at the size it is. A border would make it look bigger.

Greenheron 01-02-2014 06:59 AM

Without, without, without a doubt. (Or white to let it melt onto the duvet.)
