ABSOLUTELY!!! There's so much fabric in my cupboards that I could make MANY quilts before I run out! Usually I find at least one fabric I want to use, but then I have to buy more to go with that and therein lies the problem. I also have a car that automatically turns into ANY fabric store. Don't look forward to getting over your "addiction" any time soon...

I work exclusively from my stash. I build my stash when I visit the used clothing store or someone visits from the states. I look at my stash like a pantry. I keep a pantry of items in my kitchen of things I use regularly. I then try to keep it stocked. I do not buy a kilo of sugar of flour each week--I periodically stock up and when I run low, I buy some more. I also do that with chicken, ground beef, etc. Then, I make up my meals from my pantry/kitchen/freezer. Occasionally I will go to the store specifically for one item because I'm in the mood for it, but mostly I decide based on what I have on hand. |

I am still on my first quilt. However, I probably have enough fabric for several more patriotic quilts, several I spy quilts, etc., without even buying any more fabric - except for backing, of course. I am even going to try to make backings another way so I can use up a lot of this fabric.
I would have to buy a bigger house to store all the yarn and thred and fabric that I already have. I love my stash, however, I like having it stored neatly and room to walk around my rooms without high-stepping. |
I pretty much make every quilt I do from my stash.....that is what is so great about stashing...I would not like having to go to the store every time I wanted to start a new project.....and I do all scrappy quilts so don't really need to worry about all the fuss and muss about co-ordinating fabrics, etc.....and I buy most of my fabric on-line from the U.S. as it's about 1/2 the price that we pay here in Canada.

Oh, no. We only buy for one project at a time. No use having extra. ha ha Yes, you are totally normal. I was in a small quilt shop in NM last week and decided I had more fabric in my sewing room than they had in the store - now that's bad! Don't feel badf though - it's like some of the ladies say - how many guns do you need to kill one deer? Or how many nails/tools do you need to build something? These are our collections and every single piece is necessary!!!

I suspect we all love fabric even more than we love to quilt! I know I can simply play with my fabric for days at a time.

I guess I am not addicted to fabric, but I am addicted to the colors and textures. When I buy new fabric I just lay it out and pet it and look at all of the colors and hues that change in the natural light of home. I just got some pieces in the mail yesterday and I spred them all out on my bed so I could see them all resting next to each other. I arranged and rearranged them and just basked in the richness of the colors.
Small pleasures that will someday make a quilt, ahhhh. |
I also find myself addicted to patterns. AAAAGGGGGHHHH - I have so many. LOL
|
I love it so much I have to stay away for those stores unless I'm working an a specific project.
|
I find myself looking (and lots of time buying) from ever sale that comes to me in my emails. I have things in mind for the fabric, or just fall in love, lol.

I am in the same predicament, fabric just calls my name, if I see pretty fabric I just have to buy it, then when I make a project I have to go buy matching fabric to go with it. I think that makes us quilters. LOL.
|
Welcome to the board. I, too, was a fabric buyer if I needed it or not before my husband died and there was more money, but now I have to be alot more frugal. I spent all afternoon yesterday going through a large bag of pieces of fabric that someone gave me. By the time I culled out all the knits and other fabric that would not be quilt fabric, I didn't have a lot of quilting fabric, but I had fun going through it...lol

Oh yes...................I am forever buying fabric without knowing what I will do with it. But you see, by the time Ifigure out what I'll make out of it, its gone. Get it while ou can and figure out later. Have fun.

Honey, I'm way beyond that stage. I am arranging my fabric storage room this month, and believe me, it looks like part of a quilt shop. Go for it, have fun. It gives you so much joy. If you find that you have way too much,I can always give you my address to send some to. LOL
Don't ever feel guilty about buying fabric. I am positive that fabric is a miracle from God! |
I totaly agree with this, but how do I convince my DH?/

Make him a quilt! ;)

When I see fabric that I like that is on sale I will buy at least a yard. Every now and then I will go through and pick out fabric and make a "Stash Quilt". They turn out very nice. I usually have to buy a backing for them. I just enjoy going through my stash and "planning". Sometimes, they even get done!!!
|
Yes I have that problem too. And I just realized that if I actually made things that I wouldn't have so much. It seems when I do make something I have to go out and get what I need. But I know I'll keep buying fabric. I love to get some at yard and estate sales.
|
I keep telling my husband Im building my stash for my old age because fabric is going to be very expensive by then.
I went to a Textile Mill outlet today and bought several half yards with no project in mind whatsoever. I just liked them. |
How much fabric to you buy when you see a fabric you fall in love with? I'm always afraid to get it because I might not have enough when the time comes to us it. I'd love to hear your answers! Thanks!
|
always 1/2yard.
|
This has become a "quilt addict hot line" but don't expect any support. We just enjoy in each others pleasure. I guess you can say we are all "enablers". But really, isn't it FUN!!!!!
|
Guilty, but it started out gradually and snuck up on me. I am additect, but that's OK, I'm in rehab now (no money on SS) and I'm very grateful for my stash.
