adding borders to a quilt after it's quilted
 

I have two fairly large quilts (56x56) without the borders. I will be adding a 12 inch border around it, but this time I want to add the border after I have done all my FMQ on the quilt. I will also be doing FMQ on the border.

The reason I want to them separately is because I'm doing all of this on my domestic sewing machine. I can do 40x40 with ease, but I know I will struggle a bit with the 56x56, and don't want to curse and swear every 5 minutes with a 68x68 quilt.

What is the best way to attach the borders to the quilt after I have done them?

Also - what would the trick be for the corners?

I have done this before. If you want a 12 inch border, the border strip is cut 12.5". Cut your backing and batting at 14.5". Stack this way: batting, backing (right side Up), quilt, then border (right side Down). Sew with your 1/4" seam and press away from the quilt. Hope this helps.
