I used to put pearl snaps on the western shirts I made for for my dad - he lost both thumbs in a factory accident and couldn't handle buttons. I never had any trouble putting them on with the tool that came with them.

I have not good success with the plier snap tool, I purchased the snap sources set the instructor from a class used this and it worked for her have not tried it yet, but what works for me with great success is the snap set and plier from the baby department the snaps that you put on baby clothes and bags, I love it and that works for me. The only thing the snaps are plastic and come in different colors again this set is used on baby clothes, but it works.

Here is another source for Kam snaps and whatnot's. If you scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Latest News" it takes you to their blog and has some interesting tips and helpful ideas. https://ilikebigbuttons.com/

My kamsnaps arrived yesterday and I've had a chance to read the instructions and watch the video. I did a test snap just now and it worked perfectly. I love this! Thanks for all the advice you guys.

You have a lot of great advice already. I just wanted to add that I would avoid the snaps sold at Jo-Ann's. They look a lot like KAM snaps. I bought them and KAM ones to fix some cloth diapers. I had a lot of problems with breaking with the Johann variety.

For the thicker fabric, if you detest working with Velcro, I would use the pliers type tool with size 16 or 17 snaps. Make sure the tool says it will fit the size you buy. (Size is more important than brand in fitting the snap into the tool's holder.)

Our guild makes walker bags with 4 straps to tie onto the bars. Cut 4 straps about 2" x 18". I've used it on the front or the side of the walker, as you can shorten the straps when you tie them to meet your needs.

I am doing a variety of projects using marine vinyl and kam snaps. I have a table press and the hand pliers and use them both. I also bought a $10 leather punch from Michaels that I use to make the holes, then the size 20 regular snaps work great. I have used the kamsnaps and also the similiar snaps from Hobby Lobby and they both have worked fine.
