Peckish, what a beautiful quilt. I think the colours areso pleasing to the eye. Can you tell me what the fabrics are that you used. I love it:)
I have never heard of a "thin quarter" either....

OOPS!!!! I see you used SW scraps....awespme quilt:)

I wonder if a thin quarter refers to the 9" x width of fabric, just as the fat quarter refers to the 18 x 21/22 cut. That is a beautiful pineapple quilt. Did you paper piece it or do it the hard way. Either way it is beautiful and a hugh project.

What a lovely quilt Peckish. Nice work.

Peckish - gorgeous quilt!!!

Peckish,
Wow! Your quilt is absolutely stunning. Was it paper pieced?

An absolutely gorgeous quilt, but thin quarters????

I don't have time to read all the postings, but the ones I read didn't answer your question. Yes, I do think using the same color for the center square (the one that gets cut into fourths) looks good in a D9P quilt, similar to the way the red looks in that pineapple quilt posted by Peckish at the beginning of this thread.

Peckish,
Just viewed your pineapple quilt and am so inspired. Have been wanting to make one for some time and now I know it is the time. Do you have to paper piece this pattern?
P.S. Sorry for my earlier posts. I have very thin skin. Happy New Year.

a thin quarter is 1/4 yard cut from the bolt a fat quarter is 1/2 yard cut from bolt folded and cut in half still a quarter yard is just wider

Peckish I love your beautiful quilt. This pattern is on my bucket list.

I don't think you HAVE to pp this pattern, I know there are lots of books showing techniques and even a special ruler that can help. Also, Quilter's Cache has templates for non-paper piecing.

On the D9P I use the same center fabric in all the blocks - gives it some unity
Remember that not only is the center block being cut (in quarters) all 4 squares that touch it are halved.
That said, I would not waste Civil War fabric on a D9P.
Why not make a quilt more typical of the era - even though it wasn't your war.
You could google "Civil War quilt patterns" to get some ideas.
Have fun
and, Happy New Year.

Would that be what we call a long quarter? WOF quarter yard?

Daffy Daphne 01-08-2012 08:40 AM

I just have to say that I ordered the Hawaiian Delight pattern that Peckish used and received it yesterday...her quilt is so much more beautiful than the one pictured on the pattern! Laundry Basket Quilts would do themselves a big favor if they paid Peckish to use her photo. :)

I agree. This is beautiful! and I'd never heard of them called skinny quarters either--just quarter yards. But then I'm not i the states and going to quilt shows, etc.
