Personally, I wish they would do away with/or change this requirement for selling stuff here. Especially just for the reason you expressed.

It would be much better if they could change the rule to "membership for 30 days in order to sell" or something to that effect. JMHO

rivka 07-19-2011 10:29 AM

Better get posting! :)

blondeslave 07-19-2011 10:35 AM

I agree. IMHO this requirement encourages posting in order to become a regular rather than posting to answer someone's question or contribut to a thread. I'll never be a regular-I just don't have time to do much more than skim and look at the beautiful pictures.

It is, only it's 90 days - not 30, and I was told I can't even give stuff away.

sometimes rules are put into place to limit the people who sign up just to use this site as free advertising or to unload something or just ask for fabric to make a quilt. We have had people, in the past, try to scam...by selling a high end machine at way lower than you could get it anywhere.
Please bear with it... :D

I'm personally glad they did it. Plus, they limit how much you can sell. That is also good because it seems like a lot of people have a nice little business on the side, buying at sale prices on places like the 2.50-2.98-3.98/yard for quilt shop fabric (as mentioned in today's posts) and sell at $4-6/yard-- "Quilt shop quality" fabric. Hmmm. It seemed like a lot more like businesses doing 'unofficial' business than people selling their own personal stash as in a yard sale. The gov't limits people to 3-4 yard sales a year (I think) before you get tagged as having a business and needing to report/pay taxes, etc. So, when people here are constantly destashing...(and then buying more), it seems like it is more or less an unofficial business and not just a crafter needing to unload her personal stash.

So, I do like the fact that they limited how much people could sell. I know it wasn't popular, but I think it made it a better site. There were some people who it seemed, only came to QB in order to sell something--not really interact. Ebay, Etsy, etc. are great for that...

I lost my "regular status" while I was away on vacation. Wish I could have kept up but will just have to keep busy until I get it back.

Everything I read here seems relevant - I just skip over titles that don't appeal to me...works for me!

LyndaOH 07-19-2011 03:17 PM

I'm not a "regular" yet and I don't mind it at all. It takes a little while to get used to where everything is and where it should be. Meanwhile I've bought a few things, learned a lot of things and been able to help out a new quilter a few times.

Looking forward to being regular....

Lynda

What I did was just go to the pictures and admire the quilts I liked....doesn't take long to post 20 times if you look at quilts people made and like them and say so. (and I never sell...though I've been tempted to give away scraps...)

I have to agree with you on that. And, if someone is providing a quality product at a reasonable price what is wrong with how much of it they sell. Since when is it wrong to be productive? I would much rather see that than see people going on wellfare.

ka9sdn 07-20-2011 04:07 AM

The rules are good but most of the time I read responses that say the same thing I was going to post so why repeat and repeat.

But your status says you are a regular here. I thought if you were a regular, you can post for sale fabrics.

Just Me... 07-20-2011 07:34 AM

It's just a title.... At least you had a fun vacation! :)

grann of 6 07-20-2011 08:03 AM

You people who are complaining do have control of your computer mouse. If you find things here so distasteful, find another site that suits you better. I personally find this a wonderful site and have found some wonderful "friends" here. I wouldn't change a thing.

I laughed and laughed when I read this.....too funny!!!

I must be the "space cadet" here...I never noticed that I lost my "regular" status when I took two weeks off to read a few good books

Ah man....now ya'll know my secret...shhhh...sometimes I read and DONT quilt!!!

Maybe there should be a 'Vacation Button' for the regulars so they won't lose their status.

Otherwise, I agree with the others on the selling of stuff for 90 days, so we don't get the fly by nights and scammers. :)

Glenda m 07-20-2011 10:05 AM

Been there....done that. LOL

BellaBoo 07-20-2011 11:47 AM

It's easy to log on at any wi fi area when away from home. Laptop, smart phone, Ipad, ITouch, library, airports, train stations, bus stations, and I found most states Welcome Centers have wi fi now too if you are traveling by car.

Qwiltylady 07-20-2011 12:24 PM

I am in the same boat am working on getting back.

Connie 07-20-2011 12:32 PM

I don't post often, so my status will never change. I have things I would like to post for sale but that won't happen so I will have to use craigslist or ebay.

ditto to that. Personally I don't think there should be any "ratings". I just like the information about quilting that I receive. I don't have a lot of extra time and would much prefer using my time quilting

charlotte37830 07-20-2011 02:01 PM

I would think that by having this requirement, it keeps down the chance of getting scammed.I personally feel safe buying things from the people here. If anyone could come on here and offer to sell the first time, then you would have to worry about if you will get anything for your money.

I don't think the requirement is that hard to achieve. I wasn't even trying and noticed that I had achieved it. I don't even know how long I was a regular before I noticed.

aronel 07-20-2011 02:20 PM

Happened to me too, when I went on vacation, I even took my computer with me so I could stay caught up. Apparently I didn't comment enough, but when I came home, I got it right back.

Grambi 07-20-2011 03:20 PM

I cut back on the number of postings I made because I always seem to forget to un-check the "watch this topic" choice under the Quick Reply box. Then I get an email everytime anyone posts a reply to those topics. If I do forget, the process of "unwatching" a topic is time consuming (to me) when it has to be tone a lot.

Really, I couldn't agree more! Some of us have been on this board since its inception and still keep losing our status because we don't post often enough. That's just plain silly.
