Since she was so kind in passing you the "addiction" I sincerely hope she also taught you how to re-think grocery day (how can I make kraft dinner into tons of things so I have extra money for fabric) if I juggle this, I can buy yup more fabric - how about the "sewing machine addiction" did she warn you of that too? Cuz God forbid you only have WHAT....3 machines? nope need more......and sew on and sew on.....LOL Welcome from Nova Scotia....Wendy
The nerve of her, we can't help it....we don't want to be alone, we like having other fabriholics to sew and shop with....LOL!!!!
I thought that this board would be the Quilting Addiction Center. I thought it was to help me. I was right. I am now mor addicted than ever!!! LOL
Congratulations on your wonderful sister. At least she shares! |
My sisters and I were raised with a sewing machine of our own by the time I was 9 years old. ( don't want to say how many years ago that was ). We had to make our own school clothes by the time we were young teenagers. So we all had the basics for garment making. I believe for Deb and I it was more the time to explore and just have fun with our sewing that got us both addicted. She started a bit later but is catching up very quickly. She is totally addicted now. She is in the throws of her addiction while I am sort of in Rehab you my say. No more purchases for this girl except the necessities to live. (quilt backing, batting, and sometimes thread).
LOL!! Sisters do that to you!! Enjoy your fun time together. Welcome to the "Quilt Addiction Club" but watch out for those pesky LQS.
I just wrote somewhere else I now have 10 machines that are all useable at the drop of a dime. I think my sister has 4 or 5 now... humm... have to ask her when she is not sewing. Julia
enjoy being hooked
It's very very contagious so don't be to hard on her.
Just wondering, how did she catch it? |
I too have been captured! Men just don't understand our problem!
I hear ya! The "pusher" in my life was my neighbor. If we only knew then...
Cute, but you love her!
Congratulations! You are one of "us"!
I did the same thing to my sister, basically. I made her and all 4 of her kids and all 5 of her grandkids a quilt, as I never dreamed she would start quilting. She lives in Texas and I live in Georgia but we finally talked them in to coming and visiting for a week. We did nothing but sew while she was here, she was hooked completely. Now almost 3 years later she has a nicer sewing/embroidery machine than I do and a bigger quilting machine than I do. Now you tell me - is that very nice of her? Just kidding of course but she sure had no idea how much money I had spent on her family making quilts until she got involved so much. Now that's all she wants to do - sew and quilt. I think it's neat as can be and we really have something in common. She loves it "almost" as much as I do now.
I have a neighbor thinks the same about me, after seeing all the quilts I made she took a quilting class, and is hooked needle, thread and machine..(:
I think we ALL need to have a group counseling session to talk about our addition. Wait..........we already are right now on this board. I confess that I am a addict of quilting. Welcome to our world. We will ALL make it together. Together we can ALL quilt. Opps I mean survive this addition. However, we have to finish a few quilts before we get to that point. Welcome~
Well, then, shame on me because I have two daughters who happily make quilts, too, because their mother showed them how to do it! piecefully, the old one
Sooo funny! My sister could have posted a similar message. I dragged her into quilting practically kicking and screaming! She said among other things that she didn't have time to which I replied, "Just try it." Now she is addicted and we spend lots of sister time happily quilting!
aww...what an evil sister you have...hehehe...welcome to AQA..Addicted Quilters Anonyoumus..blessings and happy stitching
I think it happens to many of us. Hopefully (and I'm sure with great difficulty) you will settle down and enjoy the experience with some tranquility.
It reallllly can't be a bad thing!
My sister that I shared my Life with also shared my love of quilting now at 81 I have to live without her but her influence in life will always be there with the good memories.

So true. I have a cute little sign given to me many years ago but it still holds today. Here it is:
WARNING! QUILT POX Very Contagious to Adults SYMPTOMS - Continual complaint as to need for snuggling under a handmade quilt. Patient has blank expression, sometimes deaf to spouse and kids. Has no taste for bedspreads or electric blankets. Hangs out at Quilting Bees. Mumbles to self "log cabin", "Double Wedding Ring", "Ohio Rose". NO KNOWN CURE TREATMENT - Medication is useless. Diesease is Not Fatal, Victum should attend as many Quilt Shows and Quilt SHops as possible. |
LOL.....welcome to the club :)

I wish I had a sister to sew and quilt with.
On the other hand I have read ALL the posts and fail to see your sister comment or defend herself. She must be sitting in her sewing room with a smug little cat that ate the canary look on her face as she reads all these posts. Way to go sis. |
Your post was funny! You are so lucky to have a sister, I always wanted one :)
Oh and when you don't have a project going to stay up all night on, you're up all night planning the next one! Glad to have you, addictions and all :)
I would laugh, but I did the same thing to my sisiter, completely out of the goodness of my heart. THat's my story anyway & I'm stickin' to it!
Happy quilting, Susan |
Too Funny!!! We all have the same problem here. Thanks for the laugh!
I've heard that the bug is genetic.
It's shameful what our sisters can talk us into. They have no shame . lol. Wish my sister was still here so that we could get into trouble together again. God bless all sisters.
My lname is KarateLady and I am a quiltaholic,,...I started with a simple block, but that was not enough...then It was piecing and sashing, and now sadly to say I have advanced to old sewing machines. I say I won't buy any more fabric, but then I find myself back in JoAnns.....My firends and family see the snippets, and threads. the piles of fabric and patterns and just shake thier heads knowing there is no hope...........................I am hooked and there is no known cure.
Welcome to the club!
As the rest said, there is no cure. Just relax and enjoy this addiction.
WE UNDERSTAND :-D :-D :-D
Need some tips on getting MY sister motivated and started quilting. She knows how to sew, has a good sewing machine, has said she wants to learn to quilt, admires the quilts I do, but I'm not sure how to get her started. I don't want to push because I want it to be her idea. Any subtle suggestions to get her going?
Great! One more for our side.
Best kind of addiction to have, better than drugs and cheaper than therapy.
welcome to the club!
Sisters are like that, yes they are. LOL
