Great Guy!!!! Go for it, especially since it is what DH wants you do no

KathyKat 01-05-2011 12:39 PM

How many times do we actually make quilts for ourselves? I'd say buy the fabric and make the quilt that you know you'll both love.

Hahaha! A technicality - LOVE IT!

Life is short, buy the fabric. Then make two charity quilts from your stash. Everyone wins!

What a good idea! Makes it legal then, right? Jan

Alondra 01-05-2011 03:48 PM

Oh, yes, np3 is absolutely right. I mean, you can't stop your husband from buying the fabric, and if he gives you the money, you can go buy it FOR him. You'd be doing him a service. Look at it that way.

I know, I know. I'm absolutely NO help at all! <G> The more I say I'm not going to buy fabric, the more I buy. Ir's like the stores all know when I say this and collude to offer me deals I can't refuse. <G> Oh, well....

But it is awesome to have a DH like that

You guys are all sooooo BAD. I have classes at LQS the next two days, sure glad you aren't around to whisper in my ear. I'm a real sucker when someone else thinks I should buy something.
I also think that there was an exclusion in our commitment that if someone else buys it, it doesn't count.

You are a glutton for punishment - Unless you put blinders on How are you going to walk through all that fabric without buying anything.
WOW

annieshane 01-05-2011 07:55 PM

I don't know about you, but if my hubby wanted "our" quilt, I would have ordered the fabric immediately...the pledge only applies to other purchases. 4 years ago, the doctor walked into my husband's room and said he would have to operate and only had less than 50% of making it. If he did, could suffer severe permanent damage. Long story short, he is still with me and has had some good times since then. He has never been the same, but has developed a declining "normal". We never know when we will be faced with such circumstances. Enjoy every day and every experience, we are not promised the next ones. Not to be morbid, just to say, seize the opportunity and buy your fabrics for "our" quilt. Don't feel guilty, this is different.

hspirit_99 01-05-2011 08:57 PM

i agree, it not cheating if the DH "loves it" :-D

wildyard 01-05-2011 09:13 PM

I would say to DH that I am trying not to buy more fabric, but if he really wants me to make this quilt for us, I will be willing to make the exception just for him. SMILESSSSSSS

cindygale 01-05-2011 09:14 PM

go for it gal, when hubby wants a quilt that is a good thing...i also have pledged to use my stash but i know i will have to buy a few back grounds and off whites...Bless your Hubbys heart he, likes the quilts you make...let us know what you decide..

katigirl 01-06-2011 12:10 AM

It's really bad when you can't even make it into the first week of the new year. My resolution is to try to finish some ufo's big time this year and I found myself signing up for a mystery class on super bowl sunday. Guess I can enjoy having some company in my downfall.

LOL How resourceful!

adrianlee 01-06-2011 09:29 AM

Buy! Remember costs are going up all over. Plus you shouldn't cold turkey the wagon problem, just ween yourself slowly, easier on the nerves, less apt to have mood swings and those around you will be safe.

quiltsRfun 01-06-2011 09:50 AM

I talked to DH about it last night. He said he doesn't want to put any pressure on me cause he knows I have a lot of other projects. What a sweetheart! I've decided I'll go ahead and get the fabric but I'm going to wait till I finish at least one more UFO. How's that for a compromise?

adrianlee 01-06-2011 10:33 AM

Compromise works! Good for you!

wildyard 01-06-2011 11:01 AM

Aww is that sweet or what? He doesn't want to put any pressure on you to FORCE you to BUY FABRIC!! Now you HAVE to do it out of the goodness of your own heart so as NOT to disappoint such a wonderful man.

susiequilt 01-06-2011 11:11 AM

Good for you!

greenini 01-06-2011 03:02 PM

Good choice! I don't really think it's an absolute, absolute "no buy". It's you'll promise to use your stash as much as possible. Only if and when you can't use it, go for it...

Love your colors and the quilt, please post a picture when it's done.

mummadee 01-10-2011 05:39 AM

As long as you finish the first quilt, I give you permission to buy whatever you need (to complete what you have in your stash)to begin a new project. If you finish something you can start a new one.

My resolution this year is to only buy things to complete things that involve things that are already started. Since you have your stash, that counts as already started!

wildyard 01-10-2011 08:10 AM

I not only slipped off the wagon, it ran over me as I lay gasping on the ground. LOL Lots of fabrics at the thrift store as I guess people are clearing out after their holiday sewing projects.

greenini 01-10-2011 08:35 AM

I don't think thrift store fabric counts, does it???? After all the reason we're not buying is money and has nothing to do with the fact that all our closets are full, our beds are humped in the middle from all the fabric stuffed underneath, our spare room is stuffed with bins of fabric...oh go buy the thrift store fabric anyway, just use it really quickly!

KatFish 01-10-2011 04:41 PM

Buying fabric from a thrift store is donating to a good cause and recycling too, so that doesn't count at all.

Yeah have to agree with that, my DH asked me if I purchased all the fabric I wanted because the price of cotton is going up, I said no, but that's all the bank account would allow...how sad.
