It's simple and you use the same size strips as your unfinished triangle-- 2.5" strips for triangles that finish at 2". No more 7/8" to mess with. Her philosophy is that once you get your 1/4" seam mastered, you don't have to cut these down. I actually had the EZ Angle ruler but had never learned how to use it before Bonnie. The first time I really tried it was for one of her quilts, Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll, which required 600 HSTs. I about choked but this ruler made it a breeze. It's inexpensive and can be purchased with a half price coupon from Joanns.

As I learned how to make multiple HSTs way back in the days before there were commercial products to speed the process, it always surprises me how many people are willing to spend money to make that which is so easily done without props.

Try this:
Using 2 fat quarters....or two fabrics of any matching size.....layer them right sides together and DRAW lines to create squares ONE INCH LARGER than the finished HSTs you want.
Once your square grid is drawn, draw long diagonal lines thru every other square across the fabric.
Go back and draw long diagonal lines in the opposite direction thru the squares you avoided the first time.
Sew 1/4" EACH side of EACH diagonal line.
Press the whole fabric piece.
Cut the piece apart on EVERY drawn line.
Press open.
Trim to size. Viola!

I've made a few as 8 HSTs and as many as 80 HSTs at a time using this method.

You can sew two strips together and then cut out from the center with a template. I offer a 2 1/2" template free.

Triangulations!

On the off chance that you are asking not about HST, but about those triangles to make a spider web type of quilt - just cut a square of scrap newsprint diagonally in both directions and use a template for the centre wedge. You could even make a master sheet to copy by drawing the diagonal cut lines and the wedge lines, then photocopying.

You should definitely buy the Triangulations CD. I have it and know that I will be using it for the rest of my quilting life. There are so many sizes to choose from. You just print them out and use them. Love it!

I tried this and it worked fabulously - and I don't mind "trimming back" after cutting to get final size - it helps if I messed up or otherwise gives me good finished cuts. :-)
